Anyone told their baby had a small head circumference?

My baby's head circumference is only in the 12th percentile (most measurements even in 8th percentile but they finally got her in a position to get a 12th percentile measurement) while the rest of her measurements were more average. My ob said its fine and she looks great, but my family's heads and the fathers family's heads are mostly on the large side. It's making me nervous. Is anyone else worried about the head circumference seen at the anatomy scan?

  • Mine was 2 weeks behind at the a/s. My doctor didn't seem worried. Neither my hubby nor I have a huge head but it's not small by any means.
I figured if it is small it may be easier to deliver vaginally. Also your baby has time to catch up in the next 3 to 4 months.

  • I did think of the delivery upside! I just wish I got to have another ultrasound in a month or so to know its developing normally.
  • I didn't have this experience, but I talked to the ultrasound tech and she said measurements can be pretty imprecise for lots of reasons (they're measuring something super small, the baby could be in a bad position, etc.). Some of our baby's measurements were pretty average, others were large, but it's hard to know if that actually means anything. If your doctor isn't worried about it, then I wouldn't worry either. And so much can change in the next few months!
