Overweight before pregnancy

So before I got pregnant I was a bit overweight. I'm almost 10w now and my jeans are definitely feeling tighter but I'm loosing weight. It's so hard to tell if I'm getting a baby bump or if I'm still just chubby...... it's gotten me feeling very self conscious because people want to touch me like it's the baby making me round but I'm not sure if it is. Has anyone else experienced this? How could you, and when did you, start to tell the difference between baby bump and chubby belly?

Re: Overweight before pregnancy

  • We had my DS bday party yesterday and I was shocked at people trying to touch my 9w "blump" YIKES! I feel so big bc my pants are all too tight but I know for sure its bloat! With my first I knew my bump was real around 15ish weeks, my second was around the same (I started out "more overweight" with them) but this one I REALLY want to claim the bloat!! Lol!

You'll know when there's no sucking it in or change in the feel of "hardness" throughout the day!

  • Im over weight too. My father is the one who forces me to stand there while he touches my belly and talks to it. I get the talking, its cute. But the touching! My god it is unbearable! Im like why! I tell him I dont like it because it's just fat but nope. He doesnt listen!!
  • Dont let anyone touch you that you don't want to! Back away and say "please dont, that's makes me very uncomfortable.". Or, my personal favorite, "unless you put it in there, don't touch it."

I had recently lost about 50 lbs before my BFP, but still had about 30 left to lose. I'm not stressing over it, by the time I'll really be showing, it'll be sundress weather. I've never been one to wear "hug the bump" maternity clothes, just not my style, and not very comfortable. You'll know its baby when you look like you swallowed a watermelon, not "she just left the Chinese buffet" ! Haha!
  • If you aren't comfortable with people touching you, tell them so. I'd be the one wearing a shirt that says 'I will bite when provoked' lol. Thankfully no one besides my cat and puppy think my belly is a great place to step/lay down, but unless I invite someone to touch cause the baby's kicking, I'll be laying the smack down.

I'm not overweight, but I've had some serious bloating so I probably look like I'm at least 6 months pregnant. I'm able to tell what's bloat and what's baby as where baby is feels very firm above my pelvic bone and the rest of my belly is easily pushed on without resistance. Good for you with losing weight! Be proud of your accomplishments and keep at it!

  • I'm overweight and down 5 pounds. My pooch is sticking out tho a lot lol. I'm 11 weeks . I wear leggings and longer loose tops for now. When I had my son I looked pregnant around 25 weeks.
  • Im over weight too. My father is the one who forces me to stand there while he touches my belly and talks to it. I get the talking, its cute. But the touching! My god it is unbearable! Im like why! I tell him I dont like it because it's just fat but nope. He doesnt listen!!

My husband does this all the time I tell him straight up "the baby is still in my pubic region and doesn't have ears yet so give me some space for another few weeks at least" :p he's just so excited!
  • Overweight that is me. I haven't gained any weight at all thank goodness because my doc says he doesn't want me gaining more than 10 the whole pregnancy. Yes I am that fat. As for a baby bump... there is a round tummy but it is fat. Im only 9w5d...
  • I haven't gained any weight either. But my doctor would be ok with me not gaining any weighy during this pregnancy. Some days I have morning sickness beyond belief and other days I want to eat all the carbs. Hopefully it gets better in the second trimester!
  • Haha!!
Thanks for the laugh. I'm going to use this as a reply.
  • I'm also overweight. I have always carried my weight in my belly and it makes me a little sad that I can't take all the belly bump pictures. My sister in law was a twig when she got pregnant and it was a really big bonding moment with my in laws who live in a different state to get the weekly baby bump progression pictures so it makes me feel like my baby is missing out on that build up with the family.

  • Being over weight is a curse at first because everyone is showing but we are insecure and not sure. Don't worry. You are pregnant just like the rest of us. Rock it. I just turned 10w a few days ago and I've been reduced to leggings and sweatshirts. If people are asking if you are pregnant you probably have the look. As far as people touching you, If you are not comfortable with it don't be afraid to speak up. You're the one who is prego who cares if they don't understand.
  • I've looked pregnant for years, but oddly now that I am, people aren't trying to touch. maybe they finally learned their lesson, lol. but I have a firm spot I can't suck in, so I think some of this is real finally!! but, most of it is fat. haha
  • I'm also overweight and I'm 13w2d and all my friends so I have a little belly. I haven't gained any weight and my ob actually told me I can gain up to 20 pounds but I don't want to
