I was in middle school, 12 or 13 (which is really old to find out, I know!) when I found out. We were doing a test in health class, and when we were finished we were instructed to read two chapters in the textbook until everyone was done. It was in that textbook that I learned that the guy inserts his penis into the vagina. I was horrified! And grossed out! After class I told my friends about it and they were like, "you didn't know?". Now I wonder if they didn't know either!
I think I was 11 when my mom sat me down and told me about it, and she had a text book with her to show the different body parts and their names etc. it was mildly uncomfortable, but it was just the two of us in my room so not too bad. I remember thinking it sounded unappealing, but wasn't grossed out
I remember I was in the car with my mom and older brother. Somehow sex came up and I said "eww" or something along those lines. My mom asked if I knew what sex was and I said "yes, when a man and woman rub their naked bodies together." My brother laughed at me so I insisted that my mom tell me the truth. That's when I learned that the P goes in the V and I remember thinking wtf? Can't remember my age but I was in elementary school.
I think it was sometime in elementary school for me too, and prompted by my younger brother asking questions (I probably would have lived in ignorance for quite some time longer) but I remember my parents being very vague and not using specific names for parts. I think that actually made it more awkward.
My mom handed me a brochure with pictures of a naked man and woman. I was 11. We didn't talk about it that was it. Then a few years later (i was 13-14) when I got my first boyfriend, my dad asked if I knew what sex was (concerned we were fooling around) then went into details about it (P in the V) that was horribly uncomfortable and embarrassing.

That sounds awful!
Yup, it was! Definitely will have a better experience with my kids. I hope!
I just always knew. My mom just answered my questions as well as she could I guess. I also think our sex Ed was more liberal than what I hear from other people.
My three year old knows correct terminology, well the basics. I'll be as honest as I can in a way that I think she'll understand as she gets older. Right now she's a little obsessed with the difference between boys and girls. Makes for some interesting conversations
When I was away at summer camp, my mom would deep clean my room and leave a 'You're Becoming a Woman' book from the doctor's office in my underwear drawer... No explanation, just the book. Every year it was a new book with different information and ... pictures. I vow to never 'tell' my kids about sex or their bodies in such an awkward and distant way.
I learned about oral sex first somehow and that was in 3rd grade and then learned about intercourse sometime after in maybe 5th grade. My brother was 2 years older and most likely was providing me the info. It also didn't help that we found my dad's insanely large Playboy collection sometime around then! LOL (awwwwkward) My parents never discussed anything with me. Having to tell my mom I got my first period was hugely embarrassing for me.

My mom told me when I was in fifth grade. We sat in her room and had a very open discussion about it.
I love my DHs story. His sister got pregnant when she was 19. He was 15 at the time. He was riding I the car with his father, and all he said was don't do what your sister did. That was the extent of his sexual education from his family.
