FTM and lost!

So I'm a ftm and I have yet to pack a hospital bag, with 13 weeks left!! I've read lists, but only the ones who have been through it know what is probably best to bring.. so mommies, what advice can you give that will.help me pack my hospital bag?! I'm lost!!

Re: FTM and lost!

  • I have 10 weeks to go and I won't be packing mine for ages... Am I missing something?

As for lists, there's a good one on feb and March boards, and the NHS website if you want one. There was also a good one on this board a few weeks ago - if you search it.

  • Same as @manacita‌. Prob won't pack until 34-35 weeks, and I'll pack lighter than my previous two.

Hubby won't pack much, as we live 10 minutes (max) from hospital and he will likely be back and forth checking on our older two (3 and 2, will be with family at our home).

Pack any sooner than that and you'll forget what's in there, end up repacking 18 times and curse yourself for inefficiency. (At least I would!) ;)

  • Thank you! I wanted to wait a bit longer to pack, but at this point, I'm so anxious!! I want to meet my little boy already! Although it won't make it go.by faster, wishful thinking right!
  • They provide pretty much all the baby necessities so you pretty much have to worry about you. Bring comfy and presentable clothes and your toiletries. Hospitals are super dry so hand lotion and Chapstick are a must. I used my nursing pillow a lot. For lo, a going home outfit and something for pics (blanket and headband or hat) is all you really need but a few things won't hurt. I'm always surprised that people emphasize snacks. You aren't going camping. At my hospital, they have snacks at the nurses station and you can order from a menu all day long. Your SO or visitors can also run to the vending machine.

  • One thing I didn't have last time that I will for sure be bringing this time is MY PILLOW! The hospital one was pretty much styrofoam. When I did get a few minutes of shut eye it was miserable. Also, I somehow totally forgot shampoo, conditioner and a brush. I guess I thought the hospital would have shampoo and conditioner. haha. I am kind of a tom boy and preferred comfy tshirts at the hospital. Easy to nurse and sleep in and I don't think the pictures from the hospital turned out too bad :) I ended up needing way more sweatpants/yoga pants than I needed bc my water broke/I leaked through my pad more than I was anticipating so I was scrambling there. They provide these awesome mesh underwear so don't worry too much about undies. (see if you can sneak a couple pair home. Nice bc they are disposable)
Baby crying up stairs so I have to stop here. Hope this helps!

  • I didnt have a bag packed for my first two and I'm not too worried about it this time. I have 10 weeks to go.
  • Thank you guys so much!! Really helped!
  • I am going to pack around 32 weeks just because I had pre eclampsia with my first and could have it with this one and so id like to be prepared just in case of something you know? I think its up to you. If you want to pack already then go for it. Nothing says you cant you might just be bored the last weeks since you accomplished it all early.
  • Yeah i have 9 weeks to go and i still haven't thought about packing it until 26 weeks or so. But as for what to pack, i would say COMFY clothes for you.. Sweats.. Slippers.. Ect. Clothes for hubby, a outfit for little one.. Snacks for you and hubby.. Maybe pillows from home. Just stuff that will make your stay better. The hospital provides most of everything you need
  • @manacita‌'s list looks pretty good to me. When we had our hospital tour our nurse suggested your partner bring a bathing suit or something to wear if they plan to help you in the shower during or after labor. She said they are used to seeing moms from their nose to their toes but they don't need to see our partners that way. I thought that was cute.
  • The one thing I really wanted that I didn't have was nail clippers for baby. My daughter came out with full grown nails like wolverine lol and the hospital didn't have any clippers to use. They were very scratchy. Something I never would have thought about.
