hi, I am a new mom. Well partial mom, this baby is my son but I won't be raising him. Anyway my question is: when I am listening to music in my car, I like my music loud. I heard that to the baby everything magnified, will my loud music cause him to become deaf?
Most likely not. There are some studies that say exposure to a certain amount of decibels can cause hearing loss, but it would have to be at a loud concert over and over again.
I work in aviation. I flew in a helicopter daily while pregnant with my son till I was 38 weeks. His hearing is just fine.
It's not magnified, it's muted as is your own hearing under water.
I am a musician, my life is spent around loud music of every kind - both through speakers, amps, my own playing, orchestra, small groups....
The hearing of multiple colleagues' children are just fine.
There are several interesting studies which show links between music exposure and increased synapse structures in the brain. Perhaps read some of those and start listening to Mozart or Beethoven instead. Or turn the music down if it worries you.
Either way, any potential hearing loss, in my non medical opinion and after much research, will likely not be from a few minutes of loud music from your commute to work.
