Hi! This is TMI but here it goes. Im 12 weeks pregnant does anyone know or has a doctor told you that pushing real hard for a bowel movement can maybe cause you to push the baby out?
Not this early in the pregnancy. (But that doesn't mean it hasn't crossed my mind a time or two) my doctor did warn me that I could give myself hemorrhoids if I push too hard, regularly to go. She recommended Coalce stool softener to help and it has amazingly!
Baby won't come out but you what will? Hemorrhoids! I learned the hard (hahah no pun intended) way with my first pregnancy and my hemorrhoids NEVER went away. That's right, my daughter is 2 1/2 and they are STILL there. I have basically bought stock in Preparation H and flushable wipes (TMI, my bad) and geared up for this pregnancy. So don't push too hard, take colace like it's your job and drink Metemucil!
I am a physical therapist that specializes in Women's Health so I teach defecation strategies almost daily (plus I'm 10 wks preg so I get the whole constipation thing!). Hemorrhoids are the biggest concern, along with pelvic organ prolapse. It's important when having a bowel movement to do the following things: 1) You want your knees higher than your hips because this improves your anorectal angle and allows the bowel to come out easier. Usually a kids step stool, yoga block, or trash can on it's side is good. 2) To facilitate a BM you can "huff" like you are trying to fog up your glasses 2-3 times which opens your glottis and allows the pelvic floor to better relax. You can do this before a BM to help facilitate bowel to move toward the rectum. 3) DO NOT hold your breath and bear down. There is nothing wrong with bearing down (read gentle downward pushing) to have a BM however you need to continue to breathe! When you breathe in your diaphragm and pelvic floor slightly descends and when you exhale they slightly rise. You'll find what works best for you!
Prunes prunes prunes! They may not look nice, but man, they work!!!
No pushing for me, I swear by them. Had really really bad constipation with my son, mum suggested tinned prunes... Yuk I thought. Forced them down and yessss I went! No problem. I'm not constipated as yet, but when I am, I'll use be eating those.

I'm usually a prune eater although lately they have been making me gag, but for they do work wonders. I'm hoping that my aversion to them goes away soon.
I hate prunes... I tried them and gagged from their slimy gushyness... but blue berries, grapes, and plums have done the trick for me four days in a row!!!
Kiwis are also good at helping with constipation if you want to go a more natural (and more delicious) route. Although it has a weird texture, you can also eat the skin which is rich in fiber and vitamins!
@demsemail25 My OBGYN prescribed me Citranatal Harmony. It has a stool softener in it and has helped a lot. Also the CRAP diet is a safe way to naturally produce a BM.The C- cherries, R-raisins,A-aprolicots, P-prunes. All of those are full of fiber and will help!

I just wanted to say how much I love this acronym!
I'm a huge fan of chia seeds now. Got super stopped-up for a couple of weeks, but I have 1-2 spoons of chia in water daily, and it got things moving nicely and takes the edge off the constant hunger :-)
