2nd Trimester

19 weeks and no movement in the belly?

I'm 19 weeks today and haven't felt any movement in my belly yet. Is that normal and when did it start for you?

Re: 19 weeks and no movement in the belly?

  • Perfectly normal. You don't really start feeling consistent movement until later.

  • I felt absolutely zilch until 22 weeks. Now it is very light and inconsistent.

  • Its normal. Some don't feel anything until a few weeks later particularly with an anterior placenta. Have you asked where yours is located? They should be able to tell you at your anatomy scan if that is the only ultrasound you have had or will have.
  • I didn't feel LO flutter about until week 21 and then I still wasn't sure it was him. Consistent and detectable thumps weren't truly felt until week 24. Now as week 26 there are three or 4 time a day he shifts about and I have to "request" (read: poke at) to get a poke back.

  • Baby is still tiny. It's normal for movement to come and go at this point as well. You'll feel baby soon enough!
  • good to hear. Thank you!!

  • You may be feeling movement but are mistaking it for something else. At this point many women don't know what they're supposed to be feeing.
Not to worry. In about 10 weeks you will have feet in your ribs and a baby performing acrobatics in your belly while you're trying to sleep :D
  • I didn't feel consistent movements until 26 weeks. Even then DD wasn't super active. I remember constantly having to do the drink a sugary drink and lay on the left side test to make sure she moved. She had her active periods around 10 pm so I assumed she moved a lot more while I slept. She made the A/S a nightmare for the tech. I think it's still too early to worry about it.
