going through M/C and so discouraged now..

I found out last Tuesday.. had a blood test on wednesday and had a HCG of only 7.4.. By friday it was 23 and monday 35.. then it went down to 23 and i bled 
I am still bleeding. this seems to be the fourth day. I can't help thinking that it is my age.. I am 38 and probably too old now.. i should be grateful. I had a 8 year old with a different marriage. I don't know what to think.. Could it be my progesterone.. is there a way to tell?? I can't imagine going through this again,, My DR said one to cycles before i try again.. i am scared to even try now yet i want this so bad..

Progesterone is a possibility and I wish I would have been tested, I asked about it and she kind of talked me out of it.
Once you get pregnant, you can asked to be tested. I was told progesterone levels don't mean anything unless you're pregnant.
