Crying in sleep

My LO has been cried hysterically in his sleep a few times this past week. He calms down when we wake up. Asked the pediatrician and he said to let him cry and he would probably just calm down. Anyone else have a baby that has cried hysterically in their sleep?

    The other night mine gasped a couple times like he was frightened and then just screamed! He calmed down quickly when we picked him up. Scared the hell out of me though, and I started all night over every cough or grunt. He hasn't done it since. Could have been a spider bite or something I guess. We've been calling it his nightmare, although I don't know if they have nightmares at 8 weeks! In any case, he's fine and only did it the once. We will ask the dr at his two month appt on March 2.

    Mine does this pretty often. He cries hysterically out of nowhere in his sleep. He stops after a few seconds of being held and goes right back to sleep as if nothing happened.

    Mine dose the same thing. It kinda shocked us at first but it happens at least twice a week at this point. He just clams down when we pick him up then goes back to sleep.

    Are you swaddling? He might be waking himself with his startle reflex. Sometimes that scares them, they aren't sure what is going on.
    I wouldn't worry too much unless he doesn't calm down when you soothe him.

    Yup, DD will cry out of nowhere without even opening up her eyes, but then calm down shortly after being held.  It's definitely frustrating in the middle of the night!

    My son (7 weeks old) has done this a couple of times, but for us the answer was, without a doubt, gas, he would cry and scream, pass gas with or without a little help(bicycle kicks), calm down and fall back asleep

    My son does this as well. Cries hard for about 5 seconds and passes back out. I notice he has only done this sleeping in my chest. But it's not often. It seems normal.
