"Morning" sickness out of control

have vomited 3 times today and average once per day for the last week. Feel like crap ALL day and food aversions are ridiculous. I feel like I'm always hungry but don't want to eat absolutely anything. Luckily I work from home but I've been practically in bed all week. I'm going crazy here.. Is this normal? Anybody else going through this? And yes this is obviously my first pregnancy. I'm really hoping Im not the only one out there going through this. Im 7 weeks and tomorrow I have my first ultrasound.

Also, is anyone else also having lower back pains at such an early stage?

Re: "Morning" sickness out of control

  • I would talk to your dr tomorrow. I think there are meds safe during pregnancy for vomiting.

  • Call your dr! I just got zofran which has done the trick!!!! There are options and its normal!!!
  • Really?! I will definitely ask my dr about it tomorrow. Aren't you a bit worried it might affect the baby though? That's been my biggest concern when taking any sort of medication.
  • I hear ya! My doc gave me meds for my nausea but they messed me up/made me so sleepy I couldn't go to work anyway! I've been home for the last two weeks and I'm miserable. I didn't know that I would miss working so much! It's my first as well, and I am wondering how women have more than one baby!
  • Haha yess!!!!! Wondering the same thing right now!! Ah so good to know I'm not alone in this. Have you gone in for your first ultrasound?
  • Totally sympathise with you! I am really struggling with nausea/ vomiting and have little interest in food at the moment. This is my first pregnancy, am very reluctant to start taking meds from the doctor but might have to give them a call if things don't ease off.
  • @nanipepi  I've been having lower back pains for over a week now and thought I had a kidney infection and went to the doctors.  Turns out it is just from the ligaments stretching and stuff moving around and being pushed by my growing uterus.  I was told it was completely normal as long as it's not accompanied by bleeding or fever.
  • My morning sickness just started on Wednesday. I don't actually get sick I'm just nauseous all day and night. It's constant. And the smells. I can smell everything and it all makes me sick. There's very little food I can even think about eating right now without feeling like I'll throw up. Luckily I work from home but I lay in bed more than I do anything else.
  • I'm totally struggling here, too. I was hoping to find some natural remedies. All I can do now is some crackers and peppermint tea with honey. Ginger ale wouldn't even stay down. I've heard about Lillipops. I'm gonna look into that. I'm about 6 weeks and it's this bad now...the next month and a half will kill me.
  • I worried about taking a prescription for nausea too, but I promise that once you start taking it, you will feel SOOO much better!
  • One of the side effects of Zofran is possible birth defects. That's only what Google said so don't take my word for it. I would do more research first. I do know that a liquid OTC called Emetrol is completely safe. It's made from phosphorated sugars that calm the stomach. It's really very tasty too.

  • Yes, I can totally relate to the whole feeling hungry but everything I look at making me want to gag. I've also been taking B6 and Emetrol, but the taste of the Emetrol also makes me feel sick! Total double edged sword.

Hope you find some relief soon!
  • Close friend took zofran through 2 pregnancies with normal healthy babies

I've found when my stomach is completely empty that's when I start to get sick. There's a key window of time where I'm hungry but not yet sick, and if I eat a little something in that 10 mins I can avoid the nausea. Not a whole meal, but literally 1 cracker can stave it off for me. But if I miss that window..... UGH. Dry heaving for 20 mins easily.
  • I could have written your post word for word! (Except for the first pregnancy part) this is my second time around and with my son, I was nauseous, but it was nothing like this. I haven't been able to keep anything down for days and thankfully work from home as well, so I've worked from the couch all week. I'm missing eating, working out, and participating in life with my hubs and little dude! Planning to ask for something at my ultrasound next Wednesday.

  • definitely get some meds! I resisted for way too long with my first and tried to wean every week or so (dummy). I was still taking them the day I delivered. ..you can't function like that for 10 months and there are plenty of safe options. for the back pain oh yes! with my first I needed help getting up before I was 10 weeks and I didn't show until 3rd tri... hormones are loosening things up from the start. I would recommend seeing a chiro if it becomes debilitating- mine helped a lot. good luck!

  • I haven't had the nausea (only 5 weeks so we'll see) but lower back pain YES!!!! As for the nausea, I have worked at two ob offices and zofran and phenergan for nausea has been considered completely safe by all of the like 10 doctors I worked with. Phenergan is the one that usually makes you super sleepy so if you wake up nauseated or have trouble sleeping, take it at night. Zofran will not cause drowsiness and is amazing for nausea too! :)
  • Same here I've been sick on myself in the car on the way to work. I'm not a breakfast person but found if I eat within 15 minutes of waking up it's definatly something small like Weetabix cereal. I'm now 8 weeks 2 days and the last few days have been much better so think it eases off soon. Hope you feel better soon x
  • This is my 3rd and by far the worst morning/all day sickness. Of course it started at 6 weeks, I'm now 7.5, I'm hoping it subsides soon or at the end of this trimester. What I found that helps is eating small means every 2-3 hours, and snacking when I start to feel sick. If my stomach is empty, it's horrible! I snack on a handful of grapes, cheese, crackers, yogurt, or veggies. I'm trying to snack as healthy as I can.
  • I wear seabands pretty much all the time. They use acupressure on the wrists to help prevent nausea. I'm still nauseous but I think they help. Ginger helps too. Ginger candy and cut up ginger in water to make tea both were lifesavers with DS when I was at work. There's also a new medication called Diclegis for pregnant women. It's a combination of vitamin B6 and doxylamine (an OTC sleep aid). My OB said I could just take the OTC versions with DS. Definitely talk to the doc about Zofran and Diclegis. And back pain was one of my first symptoms this pregnancy. It's normal. I hope you get to feeling better!
  • I'm feeling awful as well. I don't want to eat anything other than fries, but I always feel hungry. I've thrown up a couple mornings this week, but just constantly feel sore, weak, and nauseous. I got some preggie pops off of amazon and those seem to help a bit. Hope we're all feeling better soon!!
