One of my best friends is a lactation consultant so I picked her brain about this the other day. She said they recommend the Medela In Style to all of their new moms. She said she also likes the Hygeia (spelling?) Pumps.
my bestie is also a lactation consultant (small world!!) and she also recommends the Medela In Style. basically she says that all of the Madela pumps are heads and shoulders above the rest of the ones out there.
Medela Pump in Style is amazing. Bought it to exclusively pump with my son. Awesome customer service too! If you buy it, keep the receipt just in case.
Question to go along with this since I don't want to start another thread. With the Medela in style is it easy to pump like say on a break at work? In your car? After 8 weeks I will be going back to work full time and my breaks aren't always easy to get In so just curious how difficult it will be. The Medela is what my insurance covers.
I had a medela and had so much trouble with it. Not really sure why but ended up buying the Ameda and LOVE it! It is sp handy and easy to use. Never had a single issue with it. Just my personal experience but I definitely prefer the Ameda
Definitely Medela! Pumping sucks (in more ways than one lol ;-) ) so you def want the most efficient one you can get your hands on so the process isn't drawn out any longer than it has to be! I was very happy with my medela pump last time around.
I used the Medela pump when I went back to work for a short time after my daughter. Took me about 20 min breaks to get what I needed. The pump worked great. The problem will be getting in the breaks to keep up with baby. When I went back at 8 weeks, I had to pump 4 times a day to keep up. Luckily, we had a pumping room at work that we could schedule breaks in which was great. If you are going to have to pump in your car then you are going to need to get either the cigarette lighter plug-in or battery back-up for the pump since you wont have an electrical outlet to plug into. You will also have to figure out where you are gonna clean your pump parts after each break. It def isn't easy, but totally worth it in my opinion. Once you get the logistics of it all down, it isnt so bad and just becomes routine. Breastfeeding in general is tough the first few months. It definitely takes commitment. I left work after 3 months back and became a SAHM. Loved not having to worry about pumping so much after that. We breastfed until 21 months and my daughter was never sick once during that time. I definitely attribute that to the antibodies she was getting from breastmilk. As hard as it can be, the benefits to you and baby totally outweigh the hardships :-)
I used Ameda-Purely-Yours-Breast-Pump loved it! Got one for home. And one for work. I had a HUGE supply. (We had to buy a deep freezer) and when one of the pumps broke I called the company and had a new one in 2 days. Easy to use. Fits Medela bottles.
Thank you so much for all the info on this post!!!!!!!
It made our decision so much easier when choosing a breast pump. We found the Medela Freestyle on sale so we grabbed one. Would anyone recommend Medela's other products like bra pads, bottles, and milk storage bags or are any brand good?
I called my insurance today and discovered that I can get the medela free! Yay! Only downside is they need approval from my dr. but I called and the receptionist says they don't give out that info till after baby is here! Boooo so much for trying to plan ahead haha [-X
I just called my insurance customer service and they explained it all to me. Just have to buy it through a pharmacy or approved medical supplier. My insurance company recommended waiting until closer to my due date since pumps usually have 1 year warranties, rather than getting it now and having it sit there a couple months.

Just be careful on how long tbe process to get it will take. Sometimes it takes a few weeks for all the paperwork to go through and then add on shipping time.
Got a Medela Pump In Style Advanced Starter from Aeroflow Healthcare. I really love it. Insurance was a pain to deal with but Aeroflow took care of all of it for me...it was nice to get another thing checked off my neverending list!
To the PP who asked about pumping at work. I'm pretty sure that due to the Affordable Care Act your work place has to provide a room for you to pump in that isn't a bathroom. You may want to check with your HR department
It took me 10 min at work to pump 6 Oz out of each side plus clean up. The Medela is AWESOME! I also had a car adapter and would pump on my way home from a college course and hour and 15 minutes away. Breastfed for 15 and 16 months. :-) good luck.
I'm purely a fan of Medela for pumping. I've used many others and have talked with other women who've also felt they wasted money until they got a Medela. I have the advanced pump n style (think that's what it's called). I think it's roughtly $250 at Target, but if your insurance covers a Medela brand, I'd highly reccomend it. I've used manual, single electric, and double electric. All better than other brands I've personally tried.
I can get a double electric breast pump by Ameda through my insurance company, which I plan on using at home. I work in a hospital and plan to leave one there in my locker... I've been researching the Medela freestyle vs pump in style... Opinions?
I work a territory where I will be out driving to and from accounts all day, with no office to stop and take breaks in. Will the Medela be easy for me to pump in my car in between accounts? What about cleaning it after each use?
