Honest Diapers

Has anyone used these? I saw on another Bump Month Club about a discussion regarding the Honest Company Diapers. From what I understand, if you buy a bundle online from their company it averages out to $0.25 a NB diaper. That seems like the average price for Huggies on Amazon. Some of the girls were saying that you can emails with coupons. I was thinking of giving them a try for the first couple of months. Plus, they are so darn cute!

Any opinions?

  • Love them!! The delivery is so convenient and the prints are adorable. I'm in love with ALL of their products, actually. Here's my invite link: https://www.honest.com/accept_invitation/190142

Have they done well? Cause rashes? My sons have really sensitive skin...so I'm interested in this option!
  • I was also wondering about these as I had gotten an email from some other baby website that suggested to put some of these on your registry as they were really good. The amazon reviews were either love em or hate em. So thanks to @mamahawk12‌ for her input

  • Nope, never caused a rash, and I LOVE that they are fragrance free. So many diapers have this gross stench to them, especially once they are soiled. They're plant based and don't have all the "magic" chemicals and what-not that a lot of conventional diapers have, so they definitely aren't *quite* as absorbent (and had to switch to pampers night time diapers when our son became a heavy wetter at night) but it has never been a problem during the day.

  • @mamahawk12‌ so question pretty much for anyone I'm a FTM & have no experience in buying diapers I'm curious about how much the average cost a month is. I went on the honest website and saw you can subscribe for about 80 a month ! Which I will do if it's cheaper than buying pampers or huggies from the store.
  • briafields94 - that completely depends on what kind of diapers you plan on buying and how often your change your LO. As a FTM I changed my 1st son way more often than I changed my 2nd. I mean, I'm not neglectful or anything (lol) but you are just a lot less compulsive about checking diapers with subsequent children ;) The honest bundle is $80 a month, and that *includes* wipes. That would usually last me a tad longer than a month, but you can adjust your delivery date however often you want if you realize you're running low or have a surplus.

If you go with the higher end Pampers (swaddlers sensitive) you are definitely going to be spending about the same, but it won't include wipes. Those are pretty much the most expensive "conventional" disposables on the market (and by that I mean, non-organic, non-plant based.) But if you're going for more of a bargain, you can get Luvs (probably the lowest end) for about half the cost a month. And there are a billion option in between - different levels of Huggies and Pampers, store brand (like Target)... the list goes on.

So, I guess all of this to say, if you're going to go the "higher end disposable" route, I definitely prefer the Honest diapers. And I personally think they're worth the price.

We use Honest during the day and Pampers Swaddlers at night because the Honest aren't quite absorbent enough for overnight.

ETA: My apologies for posting during hour of silence. I didn't realize you were doing a thread this week.
  • My sister is a nanny and claims that for 80 $ a month she gets diapers and wipes for the twins she works w.

Which may be so, depending on what she's buying.

Here's a comparison for newborn size diapers, in each brands relative "jumbo pack":
Pampers Sensitive Swaddlers (the highest end conventional diaper): 32 cents a piece.
Honest Company: 24 cents a piece (plus wipes for free)
Huggies Pure & Natural: 31 cents a piece
Luvs (value brand): 25 cents a piece
Target (store brand): 19 cents a piece

Obviously these prices can change based on where you shop (I got these prices on Amazon) and if you have coupons and whatnot. Are there diapers cheaper than Honest? Sure. But ultimately it comes down to what kind of diaper you are looking for.

  • So why are they better if they cost more and they aren't very absorbent? I've never heard of them.

They are reasonably priced, better for the environment and have adorable patterns. They just aren't as absorbent for overnight use.
  • I started an account at Honest but didn't order anything and after a month or two received an email offering 1/2 off my first bundle. That was over a year ago but we have time so it might be worth it to try this.

I loved honest diapers and thought they were as absorbent as others. They are very cute, and I am more comfortable with a more "natural" product being wet and close to my child's nether regions. I found I could get BabyGanics cheaper at Target once we got to size 3 or 4. We do mostly cloth so we don't go through many disposable diapers or wipes.  I think if we did the convenience of home delivery would make Honest a clear winner for me. If you do order be careful not to get too many newborn diapers. They go to size 1 quickly. Some people might even want to make their first shipment 1/2 and 1/2 which you can do if you call in.

Honest's Healing Balm is amazing on diaper rash, and drool chapped cheeks.  Cloth safe too. We love that stuff and maintain an Honest Essentials Bundle to keep it coming.  With the bundles you can call and cancel anytime or you can just keep pushing back the ship date until you actually need it.  I would have my diaper bundle come every 3-4 months, and my essential bundle comes every 5-6 months at this point.

  • FWIW, you don't have to do the bundle, because b Target sells most Honest products now. I use several of their products and love them (not the liquid dish soap tho). I plan to try the diapers as well
  • If I don't go with these I will be using Pamper Swaddlers Sensitive or Huggies Sensitive. My kids are a little sensitive with their skin. I'm a little concerned about how they use wheat/corn product. I have Celiac and have to be very careful around wheat or I can get reactions

True but they are very expensive in the single bags or cases at Target.  Definitely a good way to test them out, but the bundles are the only way to make them price competitive.

  • Yeah, I definitely wouldn't rely on getting them at Target if you plan on using them long term. $13 a pack, and never really go on sale... yikes! The bundle really is a good deal, when you break it down.

The wipes are nice too - they're WAY thicker than any other wipes we've tried.

devyns2nd, they're not considered a low end diaper and that's not who their competition is. Most organic and/or naturally derived products have a higher price point. If that's the kind of diaper you are looking for, these are considered a good deal.

I had no idea they even made diapers like that. I was wondering why in the world you guys would want to buy a diaper that costs more and doesn't work as well. Ha, I feel stupid now. I'm glad I read this though. Defiantly need to do some research.
  • Zulily has a deal today for a voucher where you get your first Honest diaper and wipe bundle for $50. The great thing about this deal is that you don't have to redeem the voucher until May 31. They also have some of the smaller packages (40-44 diapers) for <$10. If interested and you don't have a Zulily account, here is a link to an invite (it's free):

  • We use all the other Honest products, and will try the diapers. :)
  • Found that only pampers properly fit and handled my daughter's 'blow outs'. Plus great for preventing diaper rash. I trued huggies, honest, and up&up. I buy them at BJ'S in bulk $30/mo with cupons for 150. However my neighbor used honest and loves them. Depends on the baby.
  • Don't buy in bulk until the baby arrives. Some diapers may irritate or not work well with a particular baby. It's trial and error really. My son leaked through Huggies somehow and we stuck with Pampers Swaddlers. My best friend's son got rashes from Honest diapers and Pampers but not Huggies or Luv's. You just never know.
