Mid Ultrasound

Hey all, I just had my mid ultra sound and I saw an indication of "obesity being a complication for childbirth."  Did anyone else have this?  I did start out overweight (5'0, 150 lbs), but I work out alot and have kept working out throughout pregnancy (moderately)...i figured even though i was fat, that it wouldn't affect the pregnancy since I am in fairly decent shape....i've gained 20 lbs so far (i'm 21w/4d).

Just wanted to see if anyone out there did get this indication and if there was any steps that you took to try to avoid the complication?  I'm talking to my doctor today but he did mention it's nothing to worry about.

Re: Mid Ultrasound

  • I'm 4'11 and started out about the same weight as you and haven't caught wind of anything like that though.. Complications how? Just curious. but if your doctor said not to worry I wouldn't.

  • The comprehensive report indicates "obesity complicating pregnancy, childbirth"  I guess they can just tell since my stomach is chubby along with child.  I'm meeting with my doc tonight so hopefully it's nothing!
  • You'll have to let me know what they say !!
  • Sounds like their being mean to you.  I wouldn't consider that weight obesity.

    Her BMI starting was

    29.3 that's overweight.
    Obesity is 29.9....

Though pushing it.. She was not yet there.

I Don't think they where being mean at all. Not bringing up potential issues would be wrong of the Dr.

Maybe you just have a petite frame and he's worried the baby will get too big.. Idk. But your Dr. Needs to inform you on what the hell he is talking about. I hate when drs throw something out there and expect us to read their mind...
  • I'm fat, and my doctor had me see an MFM for the a/s since they have better equipment, and I have to go back since they can't measure growth traditionally so they'll take another peek to make sure baby's growing, but other than that, my doctor is not treating me any differently. She's given me a couple "this may happens" but just as FYI's. Oh, and she'll monitor baby for stress at my visits closer to my EDD, just in case. I may be fat, but I work out, have a normal EKG, labs and physicals. But yeah, she's not expecting complications due to my weight. At my very first OB visit (she's been my GYN for years) she even said that she's had plenty of patients my size have perfectly normal, healthy pregnancies. She's not even considering me high risk.

  • So i met with my doctor.  he said it was nothing to worry about and they just mentioned the indication as a POSSIBLE problem since i'm short and fat (LoL) and my BMI is high.  It is something I have to be wary of (get right diet and exercise) to avoid any complications while giving birth.
  • I am short and fat as well. Haha. (Crying inside) My last pregnancy I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes at 31 weeks. That was a complication I had but nothing else. I lost all pregnancy weight last time and remained overweight. This time, I hope to lose all pregnancy weight and more. My doctor doesn't want me to gain over 20lbs this pregnancy but didn't mention they were worried about any other complications. It's hard on the body to be overweight but as long as you eat well and excercise and get prenatal care, you are doing the best you can.
