TTC after 35

Do I must take the ovulation stimulation medicine during the IUI if I am perfectly healthy?

My husband sometimes have trouble in erection/ejaculation especially during the period of my ovulation. So we may need to do the IUI. But I am healthy. Do I still need to take the ovulation stimulation medicine during the IUI.

  • Some people chose to go without. I would definitely discuss with your dr. Have you already had an hsg and blood tests? I see you recently posted about possibly going to an RE. Just because you are 'healthy', there could be an underlying cause to not becoming pregnant such as a blockage. I would add this list to the questions you want to ask the RE and get their take.

  • I ovulate on my own and have regular cycles but RE had me take letrozole (same thing as famara). Before my IUI I had an HSG and my husband had sperm analysis. Letrozole often increases the number of follicles, producing multiple eggs. Basically, it just increases your odds. I did not find any side effects, unlike when on clomid, which made me a little crazy. IUIs weren't successful for us, but I have friends that have been successful on the first try, two even had healthy twins! Again, everyone is different, but ask your RE about your specific plan and meds. Good luck!

  • Thank you very much! My best wishes to you and your husband!:)
  • Just my 2 cents.  I ovulate regularly as well (usually on CD 15), but my RE kept me on Clomid at 100mg (first 3 Clomid unmonitored cycles were not for IUI).  I guess it's supposed to make you ovulate "harder".

Anyhow, so it appears that even on Clomid (monitored now for IUI), I still only get 1 mature follicle, so if this IUI doesn't pan out, I think I will just ask my RE if I can just go off Clomid, since it's not giving me any more eggs than I usually get.  Or maybe a different med.

    Good luck!
