Looking for feedback- Would you get the 3 hour glucose?

I failed my 1 hour by 1 point.  My doctor's office called to tell me I failed by one point, but the doctor wasn't going to have me do the 3-hour.  When I went to my 30-week nurse practitioner appointment and mentioned that I had fasted for 8 hours before my 1-hour and was surprised I failed it the nurse practitioner didn't seem overly concerned.  She told me that it was weird that it was high if I hadn't eaten and that I could always have the 3-hour done if I wanted.  I participate in my insurance company's nurse check in program and when I told her about it tonight she seemed concerned and said she thought I should have the 3-hour done.

I'm not the expert.  Can anyone provide any insight?  I don't really mind needles, but I almost threw up the drink the first time I did it.  And in some ways I suppose I'm paranoid about drinking all of that sugar again even though, rationally, I know women do this test all the time.

  • I failed my 1 hour by 1 point as well (scored 136 and cutoff was 135). I thought for sure that I would pass my 3 hour, but NOPE! Failed it pretty bad! My fasting and 1 hr numbers were ok, but 2 and 3 hour numbers were bad. I definitely recommend getting the 3 hr done just in case!

  • I also failed the one hour by one point and went ahead with the 3 hour. I did pass the 3. I don't have any professional advice, but personally I would just go ahead and do it for peace of mind. Good luck!

  • I would look into it more. Undiagnosed GD is not good. You could always ask your doc for a blood meter. Mine let me skip the 3 hour and just check my blood 4 times a day for two weeks. The drink always makes me sick and sitting it the office for three hours is very boring. Good luck

  • The 1 hour is a screening. The only way to definitevly diagnose or rule out GD is with a 3 hour. Considering the risks of untreated GD, I would absolutely do the 3 hour.
  • With my DS I failed by 1 point and I took the 3 hour anyway. I passed it with flying colors. I recommend it just for peace of mind. Undiagnosed GD can have severe consequences.
