Hi, I was wondering if anyone here ever had a CBC blood test done on their toddler or baby? I'm looking at the results and trying to figure out what they mean. It's one of those mine fields that I'd rather not navigate but want to make sure my child is okay. I'm assuming this is not a routine test for children but maybe it is. Can anyone tell me what the results mean? My child didn't seem sick or allergic when the blood was drawn.
I'm particularly confused about the basophils and reactive lymphocytes. My only research yields that basophil count should be close to zero and his is double the upper reference number. I know CBC's can be all over the place but I just don't want to overlook anything. Pediatrician is not concerned but I'm wondering if this blood work is too borderline? Or too elevated in areas that can't be explained? Obviously I don't know much about this and shouldn't expect people on a message board to know. Just wondering if anyone knows about this and if this would be satisfactory to you? Thanks soooo much.
Just thought I'd mentioned that I get my bloodwork annually (since 1999) and once -just once- I had WBC on the high side of normal and my basophils were abnormal at 5% (normally 1% or less). My PCP said I must have had an allergic reaction recently. I hadn't been sick and didn't recall an allergic reaction. Huh. In the 10 years since then my WBC was up that high once (last year), but my basophils haven't been over 1%.

I am a nurse in a NICU and I am familiar. There is nothing in this test that alarms me in any way. The lymphocytes and basophils would be more relevant to the test if the overall WBC's were elevated. Since that is not the case, those numbers are not something I would be concerned with.

I did find this, but it's very general:

Any individual health condition it's wise to let your pediatrician explain.
