June 2015 Moms

Before you knew you were pregnant...

What did you indulge in, for better or worse, before you saw the second line? This time I had bronchitis, so unfortunately was on a round of antibiotics. It's more fun to think of my second pregnancy... When I had no idea Baby Boy was growing in me, I went on upside down roller coasters, hung upside down on a trapeze, went jet skiing for the first time, and had some liquid fun at an all-inclusive resort. It makes for great predictions about his future- though for now at least, he's very cautious.

Re: Before you knew you were pregnant...

  • @OnWayto3‌ how fun!!! I went to Bourbon Street, planted mums and lifted heavy stuff in the garden, and had wine every day. Not too extreme, but I was certainly surprised when that second line appeared!

  • I knew I was pregnant just not with twins (last pregnancy) and I went jet skiing at 17 weeks. I had my Drs approval and everything! It wasn't anything crazy, just cruising at a low speed around the lake.
  • After repeatedly taking a pregnancy test an hour (ok maybe every two hours ;) ), I had a HUGE glass of white wine. More of a goblet, I'd say. Next morning, two lines!

  • The week before I found out I was expecting... I lifted weights every morning, flipped trator tires around the, gym and had a drink after work in the evenings! My life has changed dramatically for Miss Ashland

My husband and I went on a beer cruise three days before I found out. Thank God I'm not much of a beer drinker and had volunteered to be DD (it was his birthday present), because if I had kept up with him, I'm not sure if baby would have survived it! As it was I had about 1.5 beers and pigged out on appetizers haha. And the weekend after I found out I had my sister-in-law's bachelorette party to go to - if I hadn't found out beforehand, I would definitely have had a big drinking night and baby would've been in trouble then, too!

  • I had beer and swordfish the week I found out - had a guilt trip until I hit 12 weeks and I could relax a little!

    Mine are boring, lol
About a week before I found out, I had a breast cancer scare. Had to have a mammogram and the tech kept asking if I was pregnant because she needed to know and it was very important. I kept saying, "I don't think so but it's possible!" Wound up not taking any precautions, ugh. Also hurt like hell because of pregnancy boobs and being fairly young for a mammogram.

I work in marketing for a company that manufactures adhesive labels and we made a video about a chemical resistant label so I was exposed to terrible chemicals. Scared the hell out of me when I found out 3 days later, was so afraid it would cause a problem!

  • That month i went to two weddings and had family i hadnt seen in years in town... I normally have a beer or wine (1 glass) a night but two days before i found out i partied hard at my cousins wedding!!!! When my hangover lasted two mornings.... I knew oops!!!!
  • Went to San Antonio on a surprise trip from my hubby and got so wasted he had to carry me back to the hotel!

    Ugh I felt horrible.
  • Three weeks beforehand, I went to a Vikings game and got absolutely trashed!!! Then, two weeks before I found out, we moved into our new house, so I was lifting heavy furniture and what not, and basically drinking every night (as well as smoking like a chimney) up until I decided to take a test due to the fact I missed my period and had some other symptoms.

I felt awful, but it wasn't a planned pregnancy, and I relaxed a bit after discussing this with my doctor.

  • I'm still doing more or less everything I did before. I've dialed back the intensity some, but I still workout- cardio and weight lifting and yoga 5-6 days a week. I was never a big drinker, so no impact there. I couldn't tell you when my last drink was. The hubs doesn't let me pick up as much when he's around. But that's it. I walked me first half marathon at 10 weeks pregnant, with my doctor's blessing. No more races till after d-day, that's been my biggest concession.

  • I went to a week long conference that included free drinks and entertainment in the evenings. At least it was a professional event so I didn't drink too much every night, just multiple nights in a row.
  • I had broken up with the guy I was with. Very stressful situation with him. And the guy who I had been talking to about it went from friend to hanging out buddy to eventually dating. Wasn't how I planned things to go, but hey shit happens. No drama anymore so I was completely relaxed, and we did tons of things. Took the dog to the lake to hang out with his friends, went 4 wheeling, I actually fell and basically ripped both my knee caps to shreds so had some antibiotics for that. I had had my period twice when we first starting dating, then the 3rd was late. I never really thought anything of it. Figured it was just due to not being stressed out anymore and it was taking its dear ol sweet time coming. Then went to the doc for a pap test and he randomly asked if I was pregnant or thought I could be. I said well I'm late by like 8 days so maybe but I doubt it. What a shock when he ordered a pregnancy test and it came back positive! That night I planned to tell my boyfriend and we went for supper. I was so quiet he kept asking me what was wrong. I was supposed to have my wisdom teeth out that next week so he kept thinking I was nervous about that. We got back to my apartment and I tried to spill the beans and couldn't do it. He just looked at me and was like your pregnant aren't you. Thank god he said it cause I couldn't!
  • Before I found out.... I got into a horrible car wreck and totaled the husbands car. Went to a wedding and drank lots of alcohol. Found out 3 days later at just barely 4 weeks pregnant from an hcg lab test.
  • I actually had a very sad (true) story of the weeks before my second line showed up all typed out but finally decided not to post it so as not to bring down the mood of the thread. To keep it light, I'll say I drank and smoked a lot (a lot). Every day. Until I saw the line and then stopped. I would sit outside in my backyard, with the sunshine warm on my shoulders and read with a craft IPA, stout or pumpkin (it was after all, beginning Halloween season) beer on the table at my side. I got good and not quite trashed, but more than tipsy every single day. At least my Dr told me it shouldn't be that big of a deal, my first 6 weeks of debauchery, and everything has been smooth sailing since so for that Ewok and I are lucky.

Me too lots of vodka & tequila..

Maybe a week before I found out I got super drunk twice. I'm not a big drinker normally it just so happened to be homecoming season so I took part in the college festivities lol.. Now I'm waiting to have a little fun again .
  • I went out with my cousin for her 21st birthday, drank WAY too much, and was hungover the next day. My husband and I had been trying to get pregnant for a few months so I had taken a test earlier that day just to be safe and it was negative so I went for it. Then I found out I was pregnant 3 days later.
  • Great thread! Turns out DH's and my 9-day trip to China, complete with trying exotic foods (like tarantula on a stick), walking The Great wall of China, and boozing it up with delish local beers and a drink called the "5 Teas of Forgetfulness" (China's answer to a Long Island), our little guy was nuzzling into my uterus getting comfy for the months ahead. We did the math after the fact and found out that our last-minute rendezvous before getting out of bed to catch the plane marked the start of something we couldn't imagine!

I don't think I'll tell LO the particulars, but I will tell him he's been to all the major spots in Beijing and Shanghai! :)

  • The weekend before we found out, I went to my MIL and had a few drinks and was feeling pretty good. I'm also the type that likes to have a glass of wine before bed most nights. Majorly felt guilty after we found out because I didn't think we'd get pregnant so quickly. :)
  • Ran my fastest half marathon and 5k, cut and stacked some heavy logs, and had our 2 year anniversary and actually drank, which I rarely do.
  • I was camping! About froze to death one night, lots of campfire smoke and 2 drinks each night. Lots of singing and good juju for baby though too :)

My husband and I went to San Diego for our 3 year wedding anniversary. I got completely wasted the first day we were there. Got home and two days later got or Bfp. After 14 months ttc I was feeling defeated and decided it was best that I wasn't pregnant yet so I could fully enjoy our trip. Little did I know I was. Funny how when you finally relax it happens!
  • A week before I found out, I had a rough week at work, which I concluded with a bottle of wine. My friends then picked me up and we to the local brewery, where I had a few more drinks and bought a growler. The following Friday I was indulging again and decided to take the test on a whim. Got the positive and dumped out the rest of my drink. Oh how I wish I had the foresight to finish that last drink :/

Man, this post makes me sound like an alcoholic. I promise I'm not!
  • I didn't drink before I was pregnant. But before I found out, I was joking with DH that "thank god we don't have a kid, this would be the WORST time". I even had a light period, wasn't worried about it at all. Turns out I was 6 weeks pregnant.

Also, everything that made it the worst time has begun to get better. So what do I know about timing?
  • Luckily before finding out I wasn't drinking anyway as I had just had my tounge pierced so I wasn't aloud anything til it had heeled & was also taking part in a charity event called "sober October" to raise money for cancer research. But what I did do was go to 4 pretty heavy rock/metal gigs one of which was slipknot. That will be one to tell baby girl when she's older

Haha, I'm an obsessive planner and this was SO not in the plan for this year. DH and I had just gotten married in June, he was unemployed until September, I was in grad school full time so I wasn't working either... then he got hired at a CPA firm and I got pregnant. I don't graduate till August, but my mom and my MIL are both teachers and they've both volunteered to come help us this summer. So for imperfect timing, this really couldn't have worked out more perfectly for us! As my mom said to me, "God must have a sense of humor, as the queen of planning did not plan this - but He did!" I couldn't be more excited for our little surprise :)

  • @karaelaine1991‌ same here! I've tried so hard to plan everything. So glad I'm not alone :)
  • The Friday before I found out there was a friend's birthday party at the local watering hole and the Garth Brooks concert. Needless to say there was a lot a drinking that weekend. I was in complete shock when the second line appeared.
  • My first baby I drank sooo heavily for three months. I didn't even know I was pregnant.....wish I never drank cause he took forever to start talking. Second Tim around I found out a Lil earlier and only drank on occasion. Now I don't drink at all and never plan on it. Its just not good for me. Or my babies.
  • I drank a lot. Boy do I miss it, but it'll be worth it!
