Would it be strange? (nursery related)

Since we know that we're having two girls, we decided that we're just going to have them share a room vs. having to do a construction project to close in an open room that's now a playroom.
I was just doing measurements in there and I can fit DD's current bed + the crib in there but I really don't have enough room for the dresser in there. The closet in that room is really big so I'm going to splurge a bit and put a nice closet organizer in there that has drawers so I wont really need the dresser. However, I loved having a changing pad on it when DD was little.
So what I am thinking is, putting the dresser in the playroom (which isn't actually a closed in room, it's supposed to be the formal dining room) and then having the changing pad in there. So it wont be in their room but I still have a changing station. I posted a picture of the playroom, I was thinking of just putting the dresser where the white board is. Would that be strange though? This picture I attached, I was basically standing in the kitchen when I took it so it's right off the kitchen.

Oh and I do have baseboard up on all the walls now. I took this picture before we finished the new baseboard as I knew that it would never be this clean again :)

  • It looks like a playroom which would work fine with the dresser and changing pad.

  • I think it'd be fine. Whatever you're comfortable with.

  • As long as you are ok with going that far for middle of the night diaper changes, I think it would look and function fine. Most of the time you will probably be in the playroom anyway.

  • I can't see the picture, but I agree it'll be fine. Baby stuff took over our house when DD was little. Plus the dresser will give you extra storage for the playroom.
  • I personally think that is a great idea! This way when you have to change the baby, you can still keep an eye on your other daughter while she is playing. I don't think it will look weird in there at all!
  • I'm planning on a crib with the changing station attached. Just another option too.
  • I have a similar plan for if this baby is another boy. I think it would work out fine. As PP said, my only concern is night changes and disturbing DS's sleep.

To solve this I decided on a pack n play with a bassinet/changing station attached for our room. Especially since I know baby would likely sleep with us for the first 3-6mo anyway till he slept through the night pretty well.

DS sleeps so good in his room and I don't want to mess with that by putting a crying baby in there all night.

  • I used a sideboard in our formal dining room as a changing table before we finished our first floor bathroom (the changing table is in there now). Our bedrooms are upstairs. I kept diapers, wipes, waterproof changing pad, etc. on my nightstand and just changed my newborns on my bed in the middle of the night. So we had changing stations on each floor. Do whatever you want - sounds like a solid plan to me. You can always change it up later if it doesn't work.
