Breast info please!

i had my little one on the 11th. I was dead set on breastfeeding him. I was informed by my discharge nurse that one of my long standing medical conditions would make it difficult. Despite my struggles up to that point, we grabbed our angel and came home on Friday.

I have since been forced to discontinue breastfeeding. I'm a mess. Infections all over, poor letdown secondary to pain, connective tissue disfunctions, you name it.

Since stopping, my breast have obviously swollen with the milk. They are also constantly leaking. And I don't mean a drop every minutes or so. I mean leaky faucet constant dripping. And my doctor examined them today and said they are abnormally swollen, but no sign of mastitis (we're talking I went from DD to busting way out of FFF bras.

I know it takes time for the milk to dry up, but I can only find info on the internet pertaining to those who never tried to feed. I fed him for 3 1/2 days. Anyone know how long it might take for this engorgment to go away?

Hmm no experience with that. You could always contact La Leche League. There are leaders in every state and probably one near you. They could certainly give you some info and support! Hang in there mama.
And ps- my little born was also an 11th birthday

I attempted breast feeding DD for about 4 days and stopped for a variety of reasons. My breasts were painful and leaking for about a week before they started to feel better. A few friends told me cabbage leaves. I never tried them so I'm not sure what one would do with them. I always just wore nursing pads and took some Tylenol until I was dried up.

Cabbage leaves! Don't wash the leaf, just stick it in your bra and leave until it wilts and start all over. This works for dogs who have mastitis and need to dry up and apparently will work for people too.

Sudafed - the good kind behind the counter - may also help to dry you up. Cabbage leaves and wearing 2 sports bras may help, too. I'm sorry you're experiencing this, and I hope you get some relief soon.

I had that happen with my last baby. I went to labor and delivery and one of the nurses put me on a breast pump for 20 minutes on each side after she manually expressed milk out of me first. She did also suggest cabbage leaves for afterwards.
