Mucus plug 21 weeks *update from last post*

So I posted yesterday about having an internal and well my fears came true bc part of my mucus plug came out yesterday. It was yellow, thick, like rubber cement. I don't thinK it was all of it.
So I Went back to the hospital and the resident said that the Internal probably didn't cause it to happen *eye roll*
Anyway I was sent home bc I wasn't having contractions or bleeding .
Now I'm stressing out praying that I don't go into labour anytime soon.

Just wondering if anyone has experienced this and was okay? I hear the plug can regenerate and doesn't always mean labour is imminent anytime soon. I just would like to hear some positive stories to get me through the waiting. I plan on calling my doctor Tmr. My OB is tough to get into so I doubt he'll see me. Hoping my doc might send me for a CL check by uktrasound. I really don't want more fingers touching my cervix.
My cervix still hurts a bit from the internal friday . :S

  • I appreciate your replies. I honestly do. My pregnancy has been a little more complicated than most, with a lot of stuff happening in the last week so I'm more on edge than usual .. Pretty sure it was part of the plug , it was really hard and globular and akin to pics I've seen online , although sans blood . But anyway,mi just needed a little reassurance as I've also read, women losing their plug this early due to cervix changes and then going into labour shortly after. I wish I could change hospitals , however, it is the only one in my city that does deliveries, and only one with a NIcU which I'm going to need due to my sons cleft lip. So I have zero choice in the matter. I apologize if I seem panicked and it bothers you guys, but I have been under stress and just couldn't take something else happening. Thanks for your input I really appreciate it .

Why?  It doesn't appear like the one you're currently going to has done anything wrong.

  • I disagree with PP's.  If it would make you feel better and more at ease to talk with the Dr. about the plug you discovered then I think it is perfectly fine to call.  It also is reasonable to ask for another US to make sure all is okay with you and baby.  They get paid an awful lot of money and they should be accessible through out your pregnancy not just during appt's or delivery.  It might not be the Dr. himself but even the nurse to reassure you and communicate your message to the doctor.  Best of luck to you and baby!

She is more than free to call her doctor to talk about it but she shouldn't be surprised or upset when she is told what she already seems to know.  The plug can come out and regrow and it doesn't mean you'll be going into labor anytime soon.  I kept losing mine for weeks.  She went to the ER and a trained medical doctor reassured her and they got an eyeball.  If every mother called in for every little thing it ties the doctor up.  She can ask for (doesn't man she'll get it) another completely unnecessary US but should go in knowing that her insurance will more than likely not foot the bill for it.

  • I appreciate all the replies and I just want everyone to remember that we are all going to have our differing opinions on how we would handle certain things.
Let's all try to be nice .

Also when I went to the ER I didn't let them look at my cervix as they did the internal the day before. I really didn't want to have more hands up there again.plus they told me that they didn't feel like they needed to.
I don't know if that was the right choice but whatever, no turning back now. I would love to have a CL U.S. But no one is going to order that for me so I have to be okay with it for now.

No bleeding or contractions still so that's all good signs in my books. Hopefully I stay nice an closed for another 16-18 weeks !

Yep no bleeding or contractions at this stage are good signs in everyones books.  Enjoy the last few weeks of your pregnancy and try to cool it with the needless over analyzing and worrying.  Also be aware that it might not be your plug.  It could be just really thick mucus discharge.
