movement at 20 weeks?

I'm 20 weeks now and I'm struggling to identify my baby's movements. I've been getting a lot of muscle pain in my bump but I don't know why and think that might be why I can't feel the baby moving. Any one else have this issue?

Re: movement at 20 weeks?

  • Do you know what t should feel like? It's very subtle, you could just be missing it.
  • The movement I feel is almost like subtle fluttering and slight pressure. I didn't notice anything until 24 weeks with my first - I have had anterior placenta both times.
  • It's a little flutter
  • Thank you everyone. I had my 20 week scan and by beautiful baby boy is good and healthy. I just have to learn to be patient :)
  • Someone else said before me that everyone feels their baby's movements at different times. I am 21 weeks and still sometimes confuse my baby's movements for tightness (growing pains) or gas. People say that it feels like flutters, but definitely not for me. The muscle pain you are feeling is your belly growing and making more room for baby...which you can also confuse as pains instead of movements. Also someone said about the anatomy scan, I haven't had one done yet, but I am going to mention it to my HR doctor..only because I see her before I see my OB....you should do the same that way you can tell exactly where baby is at and why you're not really feeling active movements. Good luck :)

  • Oh, I did not see your post that you had your scan done.
Congratulations on your boy! I am having a boy also!!! :)

  • My dr told me it may not b till about 22-25 weeks and I am 20 now and haven't felt anything. The ultra sound tech told me I have felt it I just don't know it...maybe it's my crazy pregnancy hormones but I was so angered by her comment, like I'm so dumb I couldn't realize it was a baby kicking, but I also haven't felt gas or pains or anything else...when I told her I haven't felt anything I meant nothing. Sorry venting about my anger towards the ultra sound tech, she said that last week and I'm still fuming over it.
  • I think I first felt movement around 18 weeks (it'll be 21 on Friday). At first it feels like weird "butterflies in stomach" except lower in the uterus. I definitely wasn't sure if it was gas or baby. Then a couple days later, it was like a rippling effect if my hands was on my belly. Eventually, I was able to identify sharper movement, and I'm pretty sure the other night, I got a strong kick in the uterus that actually kind of hurt a little.
  • Don't stress! Everyone is different. I started feeling somersault like movements at 16 weeks and kicks at 18, but a co-worker with the same due date didn't feel anything until 21 weeks. And as mentioned above, it's not uncommon for it to take closer to 24 weeks for some woman.

Also, try spending time relaxed and focused on your tummy while leaning back in the tub or on the bed. If you aren't quiet and being mindful of your little one, it could be easy to miss the first few days/weeks.

My first few kicks were KICKS for me, because I was positioned with a pillow under part of my bum to help with some back pain. I think this was pushing my uterus forward. But generally it felt like small bubbles getting bigger as they reached towards the outside of my tummy, then I would feel a 'pop'.. Which must gave been a fist or a foot!
  • Everones different. . But im 21 weeks and started feeling movement about two weeks ago. . At first it was like "is that the baby moving" but now i know fursure its the baby, & the movements have gotten a little stronger since i first felt them.
    Its an amazing feeling.
