Trouble TTC

First IUI (loss mentioned)

Hello! Went in for our first IUI last week and are now playing the waiting game. I suffered two miscarriages in 2014 (April and October) and was nervous about going to see a fertility doctor. During the second pregnancy my sugars were elevated (just below pre-diabetic) but one hour screen came back normal. OB wanted me to start Metformin so she sent me to a fertility doctor who started me on the medication immediately. We went through one regular cycle before starting anything else with this new doctor. At the start of my next cycle (end of Jan) many egg follicles were seen and deemed good. Started Clomid on CD 3. At next ultrasound there were 4 good egg follicles, 1 on right and 3 on left. Ovidrel trigger shot given 36 hours before scheduled IUI. Successful IUI last week! This is been one heck of a ride but has brought my husband and I closer and will be all worth it in the end. It's comforting to read that I'm not alone in this effort because it seems like someone is always announcing a pregnancy. Keeping my head and spirits high during this waiting period and the entire process.

Re: First IUI (loss mentioned)

  • Good luck and prayers to you that you get a BFP! I go in for my US this Friday and hopefully trigger this weekend with an IUI. This will be my 2nd IUI, we took a break after the first one in the summer and started meds again this month. I'm on Letrozole and also started metformin this month too, since we found out I am insulin resistant PCOS, even though my fasting glucose and A1C were normal, my insulin levels were elevated. Fingers crossed for you!
Me: 37 DH: 37, married since Sept. 2013. "actively" TTC for a total of 13 months (after 7 months of TTC, took a 1 1/2 year hiatus due to work scheduling and wedding planning. Started up again after our wedding in Sept.) First evaluation by an RE November 2013

    HSG-normal
OH-tiny polyp found, but RE assured me she doesn't think it's contributing to infertility and doesn't recommend me to remove it because it's so small.
    DH's SA-normal
    Hormones all within normal levels
Ovarian Reserve-RE says "is great" she's not concerned about my egg quantity (which I was until I saw her and results came back good!)

04/2012 50mg Clomid=BFN (prescribed by OBGYN, not monitored)
06/2012 50mg Clomid=BFN (prescribed by OBGYN, not monitored)
11/2013 100mg Clomid, with HCG trigger=BFN (prescribed by RE, monitored with US (2 dominant follicles) and baseline bloodwork done)
01/2014 100mg Clomid, with HCG trigger-(prescribed by RE, monitored with US-1 dominant follicle)=BFN
06/2014 7.5mg Letrozole, HCG trigger (prescribed by RE, monitored with US-2 dominant follicles), IUI #1 on 7/3/14=BFN
07/2014 7.5mg Letrozole, benched for IUI#2 this cycle, because I ovulated on my own before my follicular US. Progesterone suppositories=BFN Diagnosed with PCOS this month too. Testosterone levels high at 76. =(
08/2014 7.5mg Letrozole, HCG trigger with 19mm follicle. IUI#2 on 8/31 cancelled last minute due to family emergency.
09/2014 Taking a 3 month break starting this month. If not pregnant in 3 months, will start up again with medicated cycles and IUIs. Had all my labs and AFC re-evaluated this month also. RE says nothing much has changed since my eval last November, okay for me to take a little break. =)

  • Sorry to hear about your losses! Good luck with your first IUI. I'm on my third IUI and will trigger later this week. The TWW is definitely the hardest part about infertility.

  • Sorry to hear about your losses. Don't get your hopes up to high, I made that mistake and I went through 6 IUI's with all negative results. The worst part is that there is no fertility issues with me and we are using donor sperm. We are currently in the IVF process now due to all the negative IUIs. Just don't get your heart set on the IUI working because sometimes they don't work for certain people! Good luck in your journey.
