C-sections

During c section

I'm scheduled for c section next week. I want to know if the heartburn will not be felt while in procedure. I am worried that I will be in procedure with heartburn, breathless and burping being face up which is how I feel most nights regardless of how I lay down. Thanks

Re: During c section

  • No experience with heartburn but you do realize you will be houng on an empty stomach, after fasting for about 8 hrs. There should be nothing to burp from...

  • I had a c section and had heart burn the last month really badly. But when I was in surgery I didn't have any issue with it. But no food in the stomach helps. :) good luck.
  • Before your C-Section they will have you drink alka seltzer.  It will help a lot, but if you start to feel nauseous or have heartburn they will generally push a med in your IV to help you out!

  • I don't remember having heartburn during my c-sections, but I did throw up during both of them. Which really sucks if you can't feel your stomach! I would just warn your doctors/anesthesiologists that you have heartburn and are worried about it occurring during the procedure. They may be able to be prepared with something to help!

  • I had heartburn bad and they gave me some nasty thing to drink to get rid of it before surgery.
  • Ick that nasty sour grape stuff... That was the worst medicine... I didn't have heartburn but I did get sick which was odd cause you don't feel anything below your chest
  • I had heartburn in the two days pre- surgery I was in the hospital. They made me drink what was described as a salty sweet tart. It was awful, but no heartburn during or post op! I actually didn't have heartburn return until day 3 post op. And I'm someone who had heartburn before pregnancy most days!
  • I had the exact trouble you are worried about. I hate lying on my back and was very anxious as it was an emergency so no time for all the other measures above like Alka seltzer. I had trouble breathing and couldn't burp but felt like I really needed to. I just told the nurse behind me that I was sort of panicky because of it and they ended up giving me a black out type medication after the baby was out and husband and him had left. It obviously helped with the last 30 minutes of sewing/etc.
