  • I am so ready to shop too!! This waiting is killing me. Good luck karlnbrooke and mrsrousse hope we all have luck !
  • Everyone I've heard who had them were accurate, mine is scheduled for the 18th. I'll be 14wks. Most places won't do earlier than 14 wks.
  • I'm getting mine in two weeks! I'll be 15 weeks exactly. So excited!! It was $89.
  • I get mine on Friday and I'll be 15w. I talked to the place about if I was jumping the gun. He said not for the gender, 99% of the time they get it. But 3/4d he usually recommends to wait until 16 or 17 weeks.
I'm only going in for the 2d gender , not for the 3d.
  • Do you just get them done at your regular ob like a regular appointment? Or?
  • @evolala13‌ , I'm paying for it through a seperate company outside my ob office.
  • I'm going in on the 19th and I will be 15 weeks and 5 days but I am getting them to put the results in an envelope so I won't know yet.  We are doing a reveal party on the 21st with both of our immediate families and we will all find out together when we cut into the cake to see if the inside is blue or pink.  I am so excited!  I will wait to start buying blue or pink items until after the sex is confirmed at the anatomy scan around 20 weeks.

I'm confused. Why do you have to pay for ultrasounds??
  • You pay for elective ultrasounds that are not given by your doctor.

Not in Ontario (Canada) where I am. Unless you want a 3D scan with a cd and such.
  • Where is @slappytrout with her dictionary? Maybe she can clarify for everyone the difference between "gender" and "sex".
  • Getting a 3D ultrasound Friday, I'm at 15 weeks.

  • I've scheduled my 3d for 15 weeks! Last time we found out the sex at 14 weeks with just a regular 2d and it was accurate.
  • I had mine this week (at 15 weeks) and baby was being shy at first and then spread his legs as if he was trying to help her determine the sex. Haha. She said there wasn't the slightest chance he was a girl. Haha. So our little jelly bean is a boy and we are happy. :)
  • I'm going in on valentines day with my boyfriend to see our baby in 3D and I'll be 14 weeks and 6 days. I've heard great things about finding the sex that early, just as long as the baby isn't being stubborn. Everything should be just fine ! :)
  • I just had one at 14 weeks. It confirmed the blood test that the baby is a boy!
  • We had ours and 14 weeks 2 days and it's a girl :) we went to the same place/tech as last time for our son at 14 weeks 5 days and he was accurate!

  • Does anyone in the Virginia or DC area have suggestions on where to go that will do it early for a decent price and correct?  I've seen one place that does it at 14 weeks, but doesn't guarantee until 16 weeks.  Trying to decide when is the earliest I can go and the chance of them being correct high!
  • If you want to correct people on the difference between gender and sex please do it somewhere besides on the bump. This should be a positive forum we come to for advice and shared experiences. I'm using the terminology my dr used and the ultrasound facility. If you'd like to share your experiences or thoughts about early ultrasounds I'd love to hear them.

    =))

Although this person has a point, @rainbowsandunicorns. TD is THE place for non-information, glitter, and shiny things.

If your doctor used that terminology, he/she might want to read up a bit more on modern society and how these terms are not interchangeable.

Not @slappytrout, but this ignorant common mistake makes me all sorts of ragey.

"Male" and "female" are sex categories. While "masculine" and "feminine" are gender categories.

"Sex" refers to the physiological and biological characteristics that define men and women. Examples: women menstruate, men have testicles

"Gender" refers to the attitudes, behaviors, and roles that a given culture consider's appropriate for men and women. Example: men get paid more in the US, men are allowed to drive cars in Saudia Arabia.

THIS!  100% Exact.  I hate when people don't know the difference between Gender and Sex.

Lol. "Please give me your experiences but no FACTUAL information wanted".

We're positively stating the difference between "sex" and "gender".

I have to disagree with this.  Since being on these boards I have picked up some good information on terminology that can be offensive to some.  I for one would rather be corrected on here than offend/hurt someone.  For example several months ago someone used the phrase, "Given up for adoption" another Bumpie corrected her and said the proper phrase is, "Placed for adoption" It makes sense, but I had never thought about it and had gone around my whole life saying, "Given up" until now.  I'm glad people are taking the time to share this information.

Since you would like my thought on ultrasounds here it goes, I am in agreement with the ACOG that u/s should not be done for entertainment purposes.

    ::Start Quote::

The AIUM advocates the responsible use of diagnostic ultrasound. The AIUM strongly discourages the non-medical use of ultrasound for psychosocial or entertainment purposes. The use of either two-dimensional (2D) or three-dimensional (3D) ultrasound to only view the fetus, obtain a picture of the fetus or determine the fetal gender without a medical indication is inappropriate and contrary to responsible medical practice. Although there are no confirmed biological effects on patients caused by exposures from present diagnostic ultrasound instruments, the possibility exists that such biological effects may be identified in the future. Thus ultrasound should be used in a prudent manner to provide medical benefit to the patient.

    ::End Quote::

I added the bold, but that is a direct quote from the ACOG website regarding the use of u/s for entertainment.  Now it seems that the ACOG is not up to date either because they too are using the term 'gender' incorrectly.  So obviously we all have a lot to learn!

I know this is going to stir the pot… But the reality is if you find out you're having a boy you're more than likely going to dress that boy in gender specific clothing therefore your baby's gender at birth would be boy. Until that boy is old enough or able to express that he is a boy or that he feels as though that he should be a girl, their gender is what you determine it to be.
Be it through blood test ultrasound or waiting till birth. so whether or not it is correct to use the term gender when discussing if your baby has a penis or vagina rather than sex really shouldn't matter now those words are just words. it's not till the child can voice their own opinions want and need that it matters. so you're all just fighting over words.
I Use the word gender because I don't like saying sex scan or male sex sounds dirty minded to me and I don't want to sound dirty minded when I talk about the my baby.

Here in Newfoundland UC baby won't let you do a scan till after 20 weeks and you have to have you anatomy scan "AS" first. Grrrrr... I will find out at my AS at 18 weeks what gender I am having so why would I wait 2 more weeks to have it in 3D. The ding dong on the phone there said you can't tell gender till 20 weeks :/ ( stupid much???? I found out with my some at 14 weeks and was confirmed at 18 weeks... I wanted the UC baby 3D scan while my step daughter was visiting do we could all find out together... Way to ruin my plans UC baby

I think this ones a girl. So does hubby.
  • Can somone find the genderbread man? I'm mobile right now.
