babymoon staycation - how close to due date?

I want to surprise DH with a weekend getaway (but not really away) at a place in town. It looks like the first weekend which works for us is 1 month before my due date. Would you do it?

  • Yeah if it's not involving traveling or getting too far from the hospital sure.

  • I went camping the week of my due date with both of the last 2 babies.  I knew I always go overdue so what really was the chances of me going early...and we went not too far away. As long as there is ANY hospital around there is really no need to worry.  THere is a very small chance of you actually having the baby a month early....and if that were to happen and happen so fast that there was no way you could make it to your hospital you plan on using (another very small chance) you probably wouldn't really care that you had to use another hospital.

  • I would, especially if you are staying close to home.

The fiance and I have have a weekend trip (our "baby" moon) to San Diego planned for Valentine's Day, a trip up to northern Arizona in March and a short weekend with my parents in Vegas at the beginning of April.  We may even plan a little something for May.  I'm not due til early July though.  We figure we might as well do these things now while we can.  :)

  • We're staying at a hotel with an indoor waterpark and taking DS with us. It is about 20 minutes from our house, but the opposite direction of the hospital where I plan on delivering. The only potential wrench that I can see is if I have to be induced early for high blood pressure. If that's the case, the hotel has a 72-hour cancellation policy. If it is less than 72 hours, we'll just have to figure it out.

  • I would probably go especially since it's at a hotel and not that much further.

I wish I had your courage @cneiding!  I would love to go camping right about now.  Instead, we're planning a cook-out at a park over V-day weekend about an hour from town.
  • mattandlora!  I agree with PPs that since it's not too far away, you should do it.

  • For sure!  If you know that you'll be able to get to a hospital if you did happen to go into labor.. and you're not flying or anything.. I woudl for sure go!  I'd like to go now by  myself so I can sleep. lol  I haven't traveled that close to my due date but we did drive to NC for my sister in law's wedding when I was 35 weeks with my daughter. Never again.  It was 14 hours in the car and it was the longest 14 hours ever. It was awful.  But I packed our infant carrier and our hospital bag just in case something happened and it worked out just fine. (aside from the 14 hours in the car)

How did I miss that you were from AZ? (oh, maybe your sn :) ).  I live in the NW Phoenix area.

What do you sleep on while camping pregnant? I want to go because we usually (tent) camp a lot (1-2 weekends a month, year-round), but I feel like I'm going to need a full air mattress + my pregnancy pillow to stay comfortable, and I'm definitely not used to shlepping along that much stuff!

  • I would go if it was close. I would not want to go anywhere out of town in my last month, all of my babies have come early. I think I would just be to nervous the whole time and not enjoy it...

Yeah, it's a little misleading, lol.  I moved to here eight years ago, but Jersey Girl has always been my handle on the Net.  I live in South Scottsdale.  Cool to know there is another AZ momma here!

  • Staying in town should be no issue at all. My hesitation if I were you would be feeling huge and uncomfortable ;)

I guess I should specify we are not really roughing it...We have a 35 ft RV trailer that sleeps 10...or more if they are little kids! So we have a full size fridge and freezer, a/c, bathroom etc.   The bed I have in there really is not comfortable when you are non pregnant and worse when you are pregnant but it is copeable.
  • Yes, go, have fun! No sense stopping your life waiting to go into labor. Especially a month out. Sounds like a blast!

Yes. We like to tent camp too and go frequently in the summer. This summer LO is due is June, but depending on when it begins to get warm here I may be able to get in a trip in May, and the hospital is only 40 min away from our camping spot. BUT, I am already not fond of sleeping on an air mattress, and the idea of tossing and turning my big ass belly on that thing at that stage is just totally incomprehensible. Never mind getting up to go pee all the time. So I keep waffling between thinking I might be able to go camping at least once this summer and then thinking there's no way in hell an 8m preggo me is doing that.

  • I did tent camping at 7 months pregnant. I found the air mattress to be more comfortable than our bed. I did worry about bathroom trips, but I only had to get once in the night. We had a good time with our older kids. I also would not hesitate to take an infant camping. I would just bring the rock & play for them to sleep in.
