I heard that there are pressure points on your feet, specifically on your ankles that could induce labor. Is it ok to get a pedicure as long as you tell them to avoid those pressure points, do they know where those are ? I have an appointment scheduled for Wednesday and I'm a little worried. Should I be ?
I have had pedicures during my pregnancy and haven't had any problems. I wonder if it takes a concentrated amount of time on those pressure spots to do anything.
I have a degree in acupuncture. A pedicure is not going to induce labor. You would have to stimulate the point for a long period with needles and a lot of times in conjunction electro stimulus. Even then if your body is not ready for labor it most likely will not be easy to induce with this method and would take several treatments over the course of time. Get the pedicure.
I have had pedicures while pregnant, and its been fine. I also plan to do a spa day around 38 weeks with a pedicure, massage ect.. right before the baby is born and I am not worried about that inducing labor. Although at that point, it wouldn't be terrible if it did.
I'd also make sure the place doesn't smell like chemicals. Also it might be worth bringing in your own nail polish from Voya or Deborah Lippmann or one of those more natural companies.
