I haven't wanted acrylic nails since senior prom.... But I have heard a lot of negative stuff about the chemicals they use.... It's really not good for people, pregnant or not. There are several alternatives if you like the look of acrylic nails without all the chemicals and fumes.
I had acrylic nails for a while when I wasn't preggo, and I just remember all the dust n stuff that kicks up while they are using the rotary file to essentially sand the acrylic down. Even in a well ventilated place the smell was still pretty strong. And also, even with really good nail techs I would still get nicks on my fingers or cuticles sometimes. I personally wouldn't do it myself, just too much opportunity for either nausea because of the smells, breathing in that dust, or infection from our weakened immune systems because of the cuts to the cuticles. But, yeah, ask your Dr.
I think you should just relax & go get them every once in a while if you want them. We pregnant women have enough to worry about you should at least be able to get your nails done every two weeks.
Unless your doctor gives you a good reason not to go then go if you like.
I used to get mine done every 2 weeks prior to getting pregnant. I took them off when I got pregnant. For two reasons. One because i didn't want to breathe in all the dust that accumulates when getting them done. Two because I just ran out of time for it. With two kids at home, working full time, and being pregnant.. I just didn't room for it. I miss them sometimes though. I also don't think it's particularly sanitary when babies arrive only because of the germs that can accumulate underneath your nails. I used to have a brush and really clean them but you just never know.

You're blessed either way though. Perhaps ask your doctor at your next apt?
