School while pregnant

Anyone else in school right now? I'm finding working 40 hours a week hard enough...much less coming home and doing homework. Not to mention I have a public speaking class this semester which is nerve wracking enough on its own.

Re: School while pregnant

  • I'm a high school chem teacher and I'm taking an online biology class in the evening for my masters degree. (At this very moment I'm procrastinating doing my homework.)

I'm working full-time and going to school too, been doing it for almost three years now so I guess I'm just used to the routine. Not to say that I'm not tired and ready for a break, because I am. I'm also taking a speech class, how funny! It's the last class that I need to transfer for my BA, but I think I'm going to take a break after this and just enjoy some of my pregnancy and prep for baby! I'll get back to it in 2016. Best wishes to you. Make sure to get rest and have every bit of your day scheduled as much ad possible, it really helps you get things done. Pencil in rest time and Bump community time too haha!
  • I am a full time law school student and am definitely feeling the struggle. It is hard to stay awake when I get home so I can do my honework. Not to mention I have severe adhd and am not able to take any medicine now. The struggle is real!
  • Me! Working 30ish hours a week and working on my grad degree online. Have to say I haven't given it my all. Just getting through it :/ I don't like how unmotivated I am.

I was planning on doing law school this fall but being that the baby is due early September, I think my best bet will be to apply for Fall 2016. When is your baby due and what year are you in? I'm curious to know how you're going to do it! Lol I need motivation!
  • I'm a full time nurse (36 hours a week) and a full time grad student working on my Nurse Midwifery degree.  I started the Monday before I found out I was pregnant on Saturday.  We had been trying for over 2 years when I applied and decided I wasn't putting my life and dreams on hold for a baby that may or may not come well then the joke was on me :)  We are super excited but I will be doing this whole degree either pregnant or with an infant because I won't graduate till December of 2016 when the little one is 14 months old.
  • I'm a first year law student - I am due late September and am taking off my fall semester and taking summer classes this year and adding on an extra class in the spring to make up for missing the fall. I will still graduate on time.

Your first year in law school is the hardest and I don't know which school you are thinking of attending but mine only allows for 2 weeks maternity leave if you aren't taking the whole semester off. I would highly suggest waiting till fall 2016. You won't want your grades to suffer if you miss two weeks of school and then there is always the possibility of the unknown. Hope that helps!
  • Yep I'm working full time and studying for a professional exam and on top of that I have to combat nausea, exhaustion, while handling a 2 year old tot at home! Right now my health and family is my priority. Still trying my best for my exam but I do not want to push myself too hard and cause any adverse effects. I suggest you keep stress at minimum, be very disciplined but not too hard on yourself. Let's power through this!
  • I'm a full time MSc student and do part-time volunteer work and I'm honestly relieved to have finished my last normal classes just before Xmas break cause with the fatigue and  nausea I'm dealing with I honestly haven't a clue how I would have combined that with going to university. I'm now working on my master thesis research project which is done solo and I have to admit I've not managed to get ánything done on that these past weeks. Feel terrible about it but I've tried and it's going so rough right now.. it's quite dishearting. I'll continue my volunteerwork till I am further along in the pregnancy then will take a break from that too. I am looking forward to my second trimester in hope the fatigue and nausea will be gone then and I can continue my work with refreshed energy!
  • I am a full time pre k teacher and taking two classes. The nights I don't have school I have to work on homework or paperwork. I definitely understand your pain.
  • Thank you @whytheatre‌! I have heard the first year is INTENSE and I definitely do not want to go into a rigorous program with excuses and situations lol. Great I'll just put my dreams on hold for another year and focus on having a healthy baby ☺️ Good luck to you on your journey! I've heard it gets easier in the second and third years!
  • I'm a full time 4th yr PhD student. Balancing work stress and demands has always been tough for me as a overachieving perfectionist, but I have been doing my best to cut out unnecessary stressors. I'm giving myself more time to complete assignments and getting things done in a way that is "good enough." 9 hrs sleep and a nap in the afternoon is what it takes for me to have enough rest to be productive. I then capitalize on the time that I do have to check things off the list.
    Me (27) & Hubby (40): 1/22/11
    EDD of 1st: 9/11/15
    PhD grad date: 6/1/16
