Firm abdomen

The last few days I've had contractions 3-7 minutes apart that last for about an hour and then they die off. Today after about 90 minutes of this my abdomen became very firm, it felt like a bowling ball (it doesn't feel the same as a contraction, more like a BH). It didn't hurt, it was just extremely uncomfortable. I tried walking around, drinking more water, etc, then called the on call OB. She basically said, I don't know why it's doing that, but if you can still feel the baby moving don't worry.
Anywho, has anyone else experienced this? Does anything help it go away?!

Edit: the firmness lasted all afternoon.

  • I heard (and did when I had BH), to drink some water and lay down. Walking and doing more stuff can make them last longer.

  • Mine feels like that when she's in the front. It feels like she just puts all her weight in the front and balls up.
  • I was at work all day and definitely felt better after I was able to lay down. It must have just been her position. I sit the majority of time I'm at work, so I thought walking around and changing positions would help, but it didn't. Haha!
  • Yes this happens to me. I usually just lay or sit down and it goes away.
  • I'm going through this right now. Thanks for the post as it gave me some insight as I was playing cards with my husband and my entire stomach became a hard rock for 30+ min straight. I'm laying down now and it doesn't hurt as bad as before. I knew it wasn't labor - this LO just needed to move to a better spot.

This is the same for me. Happens every now and then- kind of like an extended BH feeling, but I think it has to do more with how she's positioned herself.

  • It happened again today at work, thankfully I'm not working much more before the baby gets here!
