breast pump

Hi ladies I need to know which breast pump you think is best I had the Ameda( I think that's how you spell it) with my first child it worked pretty well but it was super noisy . What do you suggest?

Re: breast pump

  • I have a medela pump. My sister and a few other moms recommended it to me.

  • Following this question, my insurance covers a breast pump but I'm not sure what to get also.
  • Mines doesn't cover it Jill so I will spending out of pocket for this one, I keep hearing the Medela is the best but it is expensive, I will probably end up buying it I would just like some reviews
  • Mine was covered. I was under the impression this was an Affordable Healthcare Act requirement for health insurance companies. You might want to double check that, if you live in the US. Anyway, it came down to Avent vs Medela for me. I went with Medela after spending FAR too many hours reading reviews online. This will be my first. So, I have not had the opportunity to use mine yet, and I can't say whether or not it was a good choice. But..,Good luck!

  • Health insurance is only required to pay if they have Expanded Women's Care. Groups that are religious in nature (ie churches) or are self funded can elect NOT to cover them. It is completely up to the employer so you need to confirm with the insurance company how they are set up. If you do go through insurance they can also say you need to rent one versus buy one based on the costs.
  • I have used the Medela and the Tomy (aka First Years) and definitely preferred the Medela. If you have to pay out of pocket, check out the Spectra S1 and S2. That's what I was going for but my insurance doesn't cover it.
  • Use the search function. There have been extensive discussions on this.
  • I had the medela hands free with my first and loved it! My only issue was that it wasn't THAT strong, and I could've used a pump that was hospital grade in order to increase my milk production... Also looking into getting a new pump this time around... Maybe :)
  • I'm getting an Ameda Purely Yours b/c it's covered by my insurance.

  • Are you interested in only electric? I had a really nice medela electric pump and after I found the Medela manual pump I found I liked that a LOT MORE . If you're not planning on bottle feeding a lot you may look into a manual one. It's so small it goes everywhere and its whisper quiet. Only one side at a time but for me this was great because I used the pump only on my occasional times away from baby and then in the beginning to help bump up my supply I pumped after she nursed on which ever side she didn't fully drain.

Just a thought. I'm sure you're looking for a fancy dual sided one :)
  • I bought a dr browns double electric because I heard they were the best for travelling and I might go back to work. It comes with a really cute/discreet carrying bag so you can pump anywhere ☺️
  • I love my Medela PISA!  Great pump!  It works well and fast.  I pumped 3x a day when I returned to work after DS, and I never had any issues.  I own mine so I can't help with insurance stuff.
PPD/PPA Mom...it has been super hard, but I'm making it! Slow steps...

  • Try the Medela PISA Starter Kit -- on Amazon it's like $120-140? You can buy accessories separately & still pay way less than if you bought the kit with a backpack/tote.
  • I wish i was getting a medela but my insurance switched in january, now im getting the ameda. I hope it works wonderfully
  • Thank you ladies
  • I loved my Ameda Purely Yours with my 1st baby (who is 5 yrs old now) do I am getting for this time around.
