Cost for circumcision

So, at the hospital we will be delivering at, the doctor charges $150 cash fee, and the hospital charges another $150. Unfortunately, it's something we're just going to have to deal with since we've decided completely on circumcision. Anyway, just wondering if any other mamas who've decided to go this route have similar costs at their hospitals, or if it is somehow covered. It wouldn't be so bad if we didn't have to pay upfront.

We are going to circ our son as well and we have to pay 400 up front before they do it. I feel the same way, it wouldn't be so bad if we didn't have to pay it all at once before they did it. But it's kind of an 'oh well' situation.

Not true... Some companies do pay for it because it is considered standard care for delivery. You should really call the insurance company directly to confirm if it's covered. DONT take what the hospital tells you because they don't know every plan and every company. Also it's easier for them to say it's not covered, charge up front and then if it is covered you have to fight with them to give you money back.

I never thought to look into this!! My ins has covered everything for me so never thought about checking on this. I will put this on my weeks to do list to check with my ins company. Thank you ladies for this insight. We are both taking 3 months off and need to plan and prepare for every added cost. Thanks!!

I had to put a formal request in through the hospital. It was approved and my insurance will be covering the entire bill. I was told that we would have to pay out of pocket originally. I'm very glad I called and got the correct information!!!

Wow. I'm in canada (ontario), so there's certain things that are covered by The ontario health insurance plan...it covers all appts. With family dr., and vaccines and hospital stays, but circumcision isn't covered because It's optional, and not medically necessary. Glad some of you other ladies were able to look into it and get it covered. That's a lot of money to have to pay upfront!

We are paying 350, it's under the deductible so we will be responsible for all of it

It would have been $300 for us with DS. And I had amazing insurance that covered everything else, but they considered circumcision to be cosmetic and therefor optional. We didn't do it. For many reasons but mostly because $300 is pricey for a cosmetic procedure on a one day old.

I just called my ins company and found that they will cover 100%... I'm super relieved. We would have done it either way but very exited they are paying all

Paying up front seems crazy. I think with my son we just got a bunch of bills to cover whatever my insurance didn't. But circ was pretty much covered I think.

I didn't consider this added expense. We have Kaiser insurance, not sure what their coverage is for a circumcision.

Where I am delivering there is a 400 fee upfront to get procedure not including the actual fee of the procedure. I'm lucky to have insurance that will pay for the whole expense and I don't have any out of pocket expense

I'm sorry I meant my insurance, I should've said that. Now I'm kinda bummed that so many insurance companies pay for it! I don't mind though it's the only thing I have to pay for, they cover everything else.

I am jealous! My delivery is costing us about $6000 between prenatal and delivery care. And that's with insurance

Would it be less costly to just have it done and the doctor's office instead of the hospital to a pic the hospital cost for the procedure?
