Post partum issue or iron deficiency?

Ladies I posted on here a few days ago when I was dangerously close to doing something drastic. I was having debilitating anxiety after the birth of my baby girl. I could not function. My appetite was non existent. I was ambivalent to everything going on around me and couldn't concentrate on a single task. I went to the dr and she prescribed zoloft, which would take weeks to work. Even after explaining that I didn't have weeks left in me that was the answer I got. I had a difficult delivery and lost a great deal of blood, and of course continued to bleed after delivery. After my visit to the dr I was desperate to find something in the meantime that could help me. I got to the point where I understood why people wanted to commit suicide and was close to checking in to a mental hospital. During my search I kept coming across iron deficiency being the cause of a host of different issues post partum, including anxiety, increased heart rate, and loss of appetite. I figured I had nothing to lose and got a blood boosting supplement from whole foods. Ladies, I kid you not, within hours I had an appetite and felt better than I had since before my delivery. I'm not trying to preach and say this is the solution to people suffering from post partum issues, but it literally turned my life around. I'm hoping this continues. I'm also concerned that the dr didn't even consider running any sort of bloodwork or mention any type of deficiency possibly causing what was going on. All they want to know is if you want to harm yourself or the baby, and that's when you go to a hospital. It makes me sick because I feel like women are being prescribed anti depressants when they may not need them. I just wanted to share this in case there are any other desperate women trying to find relief from these terrible symptoms. Hang in there, it will get better!
