Complications during pregnancy

Hello I am 25 weeks and 3 days pregnant today. This will be my 3rd pregnancy and ever since my DH and I found out I was pregnant we kept on having issues during
this pregnancy. The first ultrasound we had we were only aware of having one baby, we went back two weeks later to find out we were having twins!!! We were so excited to hear that. They told us ot was identical twins they share a placenta but have two separate water sacks. We were so happy and started planning and telling everyone we knew. At 12 weeks we found out that there were signs of twin to twin transfusion and we were scared. The doctors gave us options and 2 of them we were not fond of. But our baby girls held on. Then we kept on hearing that Baby A had more fluid then Baby B and we kept on hearing sad news but our girls held on strong and were developing fine. Then at 20 weeks my water broke. They told us that I could go into labor at anytime, and all of these depressing news that a pregnant women does not want to hear. So I had a round of fluid antibiotics for 48 hours in the hospital and then got released and took oral antibiotics for 5 days at home. Then a few days later we scheduled an appointment to discuss steroid shots to be giving for the development of lungs to the babies at 23 weeks and 5 days and once I hit 24 weeks I will be admitted to the hospital for 10 weeks. But the babies had a different plan. I sstarted to heavily bleed at 23 weeks and ended up in the hospital for minor placenta abruption. Now im in the hospital being closely monitored till these babies come. And every week it reaches ahhigher chance of survival for my girls. Im still really scared that we could have them earlier then 34 weeks and they don't make it. But I hope they do. Just any similar situations happen to anyone like this? Im just scared and worried and anxious. Thank you all for listening.

Re: Complications during pregnancy

  • I had mine at 31 weeks. They are fine and have no complications. I had an uncomplicated pregnancy but but had asymptomatic chorioamnionitis and went into labor, all you can do is take it one day at a time.

Im glad they had no complications, and it tends to be difficult to take it one day at a time.
  • That sounds really hard.  Prayers for you.  I went on bedrest at 28 weeks for a shortening cervix.  We made it until 34 weeks when my water broke.

During bedrest, I used to also post on the High Risk Pregnancy forum.  They were lovely ladies but that was 16 months ago so I am not sure if it was active.

    Good luck.

D & L are here at 34 weeks 4 days by vaginal and breech delivery on 11/19/2013
Two healthy boys weighing 4 lbs 15 ozs and 4 lbs 5 ozs.  Only 6 days in the NICU and getting bigger, stronger and cuter every day!
  • I also had a leak in baby A's sac but it was at 31w2d. I also had a bleeding episode from a placental abrupttion but it also stopped bleeding after a day or so.

I eventually went into labor on my own at 32wks so they couldnt stop it so I had an immediate c section. My babies have done great 3&4 wks NICU time to learn to eat and grow. They were on room air from the start and continue to thrive now that they are home. My duo is now 4months old.

I know @AMShark‌ is going through the same thing right now. I hope you don't mind me tagging you.

  • I have di/di twins, and the membrane ruptured on baby A's sac at 20w1d.  Like you, I got 48 hours of antibiotics by IV, and was discharged on home bed rest with 5 more days of oral antibiotics.  I was admitted to the hospital for bed rest at 23w2d, and got my first round of steroids at 24w.

I am currently 28w3d and still on hospital bed rest.  We're also hoping to make it to 34 weeks.  My goal right now is 30w for a 2nd round of steroids.  The leaking is pretty consistent - Some days I may leak more than others, but I am aware of the leaking everyday.  Baby B seems to be unaffected by all of this, and despite very low fluid levels, Baby A seems to be doing ok.

I'm lucky in that I don't face the twin to twin transfusion issue that you have, but I think I can understand a lot of what you're going through.  For me, the longest weeks were the first 4, as we waited to get to viability.  Every morning when I wake up, I try to remember that we've made it another day.  (Don't they say 1 day in the uterus is worth 2 in the NICU?)

If you want to talk about it sometime, feel free to PM me.  Another poster on the Pregnant after IF board, @starlightgator , is also going through this now.  You are not alone.

  • At 25 1/2 weeks twin to twin transfusion started to happen to my idenicals. At 27w 1day I went into the hospital & they drained fluid from baby b's sack. Things were looking good, then I developed somthing called mirror sydrome & my body started shutting down. So they did a c-section at 27w 3days. This was on Jan 17, my boys are now 3 weeks old. They were 1lb 13 oz & 1lb 14oz at birth & now are 2lb 5oz & 2lb 4oz. Their biggest struggle is their under developed lungs. But they been doing better since getting steroids. I also got 2 shots of steroids the day before they were born. It was very hard & sad to see them in the nicu the first week & 1/2 but it's getting easier & I have no fears that they won't come home in 2 months.
