Nap Trouble

My son is 8 weeks today and sleeps decent at night, but is a terrible napper after 12noon until 10pm at night. He does not like the bouncy chair or swing, once in a while he'll sleep in his car seat after a long walk. The Pediatrician did not seem overly concerned, but it seems odd that he's been like this since 4 weeks, thoughts?

Re: Nap Trouble

  • My 8 week old is the same, he does cat naps all day long untill bed time, i may get 1 good 45 min nap from him
  • Same with my 8 week old. I've gotten good at getting him to sleep before he's overtired but if he wakes too early i face quite a wrath from him! He gets so worked up he either won't go back to sleep at all or it takes an hr for him to fall back asleep. By then it's time to eat again...
  • Hello mamas! My son is 7 weeks old today, and the only way for me to get him to sleep is by holding him day and night. I wouldn't care where he slept as long as he'll let us put him down once he's asleep. Other STMs who has experience this, has your LO eventually grow out of this phase? How difficult was transitioning into a crib later? Any other mamas going through the same thing? Any reassurance will be appreciated :-)
  • My 7 weeks old daughter does the same!!! Sleeps great at night, but can only get maybe 1-2 45 min naps in during the day. She will sleep longer if I'm holding her. Glad to know I'm not the only one.
  • My son is 6 weeks 2 days and the same. I can't put him down. If I do he will usually sleep 20 minutes and then start screaming.
I'm getting concerned because I go back to work soon.
I'm not having much luck or doing that great a job getting him down at night either.....
  • I've been having the same issue for weeks now. He won't sleep long unless he stays in my arms or we are walking. I try to follow cues but he fights it and I barely get him down before he's up again crying because I put him down. At night he goes down fairly ok but he'll sleep 2 hours then up then down again for 3-4 hours then up every 1.5-2 hours after that. I'm staying exhausted and keeping a headache from lack of sleep these days ._.
  • have you tried swadding? pacifier? i don't use the latter, except to occasionally help her fall asleep, but i swaddle w/ a&a during the day. she usually falls asleep nursing and then i lightly swaddle her in the bassinet. occasionally she wakes up, but usually stays asleep. i'd keep trying - if LO wakes up, pick her back up and get her to sleep, then put her down again. if it doesn't work one day, hold her, then try again the next day.

Yes we still swaddled him, we use a pacifier a lot, even a white noise machine. Unfortunately none of those guarantee a nap :unamused:
I don't nurse him to sleep because I have to go back to work and that's a habit I won't be able to keep up.
  • I'm having the same issue! My almost 7 week old sleeps great at night but unless I'm wearing him or he's in the car seat he will only take a few 20 min naps!
  • So I've been following sleep cues and getting him down within an 1/1.15 hrs of him waking up and that seems to be helping a little, but every day is different.
