working out postpartum

hi guys, my baby is two weeks old and i'd like to start working out a bit. walking isnt really an option due to the weather- curious what others have done to get back in shape safely and effectively. i like to do pinterest exercises at home but not sure whats safe. thanks!

  • At 2 weeks? Nothing. We went for walks, and nursed. That was pretty much it. You should consult with your Dr before you plan to exercise PP.

If you want to walk, head to the mall or Target and walk around there.

  • I just went for walks until cleared at 6 weeks.  I just started back and have been just doing the elliptical machine for starters.

  • I walked almost immediately, then at 2 weeks started modified versions of my old workouts (lighter weights and/or less reps, elliptical vs running). By 5 wks pp, back to running, spin class, kettlebells, etc. Getting the blood pumping will totally speed recovery...just listen to your body and start easy and ramp up as your body allows. (I should say that I stayed very active throughout the 41 weeks of my pregnancy).

I wouldn't do much until 4-6 weeks pp. I walked a bit and did planks for my ab muscles and pelvic floor.
