Anyone have gallbladder problems during pregnancy?

This is my 4th pregnancy, 14 weeks pregnant with twins as a gestational carrier for an awesome couple, and I've been diagnosed with gall stones though I've never had gallbladder problems before.  The pain is awful!  Sometimes I can't stand up straight.  My Dr. gave me diet changes (low fat, no fried foods, more water), and told me to lie down more if that helps.  She also gave me the ok to take up to 600mg Tylenol every four hours to help.  Been watching what I eat and how it affects the pain... assembling quite the list of things I shouldn't eat anymore :(

Does anyone have experience dealing with gallbladder attacks successfully throughout pregnancy?  Got any tips or recipes??

I had severe gallbladder attacks and then surgical removal about 12 years ago.

I wasn't pregnant then, thank goodness. I'm sorry you're having to go through attacks while pregnant, mine were so horrible it felt like an alien was trying to burst through my abdomen.

Anyway, your doctor's advice was good and that's about all you can do. There's nothing guaranteed to completely stop the attacks if one of your gallstones decides to be a jerk and plug up the duct.

In addition to fried foods, I'd cut out any fatty foods in general. Two of my particularly bad attacks came in the middle of the night after a greasy burger and pasta alfredo (not at the same time of course).

That was before I was diagnosed, or I wouldn't have been so foolish as to ingest those things lol

The gallbladder's job is to aid in breaking down fats, so the less fatty food you eat the easier it is on your gallbladder.

I still had pain but it was nothing compared to the attacks.

  • I actually had my gallbladder taken out with my first pregnancy when I was 6 months. It really wasn't that bad and they monitored baby the whole time. I felt immediately better!
  • I'm having gallbladder issues and I'm 25 weeks pregnant. Pain was so horrible at the beginning they almost took me in for surgery. Then they decided to delay the surgery until after the baby is born since the pain went down a little. I was told to follow a strict diet and that's what I've been doing. It helps a lot. I second trying to avoid any fatty foods, my pain usually gets worse after eating pastas or spicy foods (which I'm avoiding now). Drink lots of water too. Good luck with everything and sorry you are experiencing this issue, it's not fun at all.
