Induction using cervidil and Pitocine

I'm being induced this Sunday at 9 pm with cervidil then after that Pitocine and they want to break my waters I'm terrified it will turn into a c-section any one been threw this I need good and bad story's don't sugar coat it.

Re: Induction using cervidil and Pitocine

  • That was my plan for induction last night but baby turned back breech after 3 weeks head down so I had a section. As long as the two of you are safe and healthy, just have a positive attitude toward how everything happens.

  • I was just induced...from the time they gave me the drugs to holding my little man was 10 hours for a FTM...not bad! They broke my water an hour after being induced. Got along well and baby was born vaginally. Good luck!

Hi ladies, I haven't been much involved in the boards but have been lurking for a while. Saw this post and wanted to share my experience. With my first I went in at 10:30 the night before they were planning on inducing. They placed cervidil at 11:30 on Monday night with the plan to start pitocin at 11:30 Tuesday morning. I had 0 effacement and 0 dilation upon admission to the hospital. I started having contractions at 7:00 Tuesday morning and my baby boy was born vaginally at 11:39 (4.5 hours later) without the need for pitocin. Every person is different and every birth is different. Good luck!
  • I was induced with DD on her due date because I had borderline gestational diabetes. Anyway, prior to being induced my doctor said I was favorable and inducing should be an easy and quick process because I was already 90% effaced but only a cm dilated. I went in at midnight and they started pitocin at 1 am. I was already having contractions on my own and my doctor was going to come in before office hours to break my water. He didn't get a chance to come in due to another mother needing him to deliver. I was only dilated to 2 cm around 11 am when the nurse checked and as soon as she left my water broke on its own. She said that was good news and barely happens on pitocin. As soon as that happened it all happened so fast and baby girl was here and I was ready to push 3 hours later. I got an epidural right after my water break because the contractions turned to like a 1 in pain to an 11 instantly. I went from 2 cm to pushing in 3 hours. Mine was easy and relatively quick once my water broke. There was never a c-section thought brought up.
  • When I was induced with DS, I wasn't dialated or effaced at all. The cervadil did absolutely nothing to me, it was a big giant waste of 12 hours of my life. They put me on something called cytotec and that was what got things going for me. I went to 8 cm on 2 rounds of cytotec and didn't even get to the pitocin bc DS was not handling the contractions well. Ended up with a c section 36 hours after I started. Good luck and trust the doctors will do what's best for you and baby.

  • For my first I went in about 11 pm (41 weeks.) They originally were going to do the cervidil but I was 2 cm and doc said she would rather start me on a small amount of pitocin. 8 am they broke my water-9 I asked for an epidural. I started pushing at 5 pm and she was here at 6:28.....19 hour labor. This baby has until thursday night to come on her own-if not, I will be induced again. They do not allow gestational diabetes patients go over 41 weeks. I definitely know what to look forward to this time around.
  • I just got home from a 40 hour failed induction. They didn't break my water, so I didn't need a section. I was having incredible contractions for hours, but my cervix did not dilate. Make an educated decision, but be prepared to end in a c-section.

  • Hi :-). With my daughter, this happened to me. I went in at 8pm and they started the cervadil. I started having contractions on my own around 1am and couldn't sleep. Around 7am, they started pitocin. I labored slowly. I tried to go naturally despite all of the medication but I was having piggyback contractions and back labor. By 4pm, I was only dialated to a 2 and agreed on getting an epidural. (Oh they broke my water at 1pm). Finally by 10:30pm, I was fully dialated. They wanted me to labor down for an hour though. I pushed from 11:30-1:32am, when my daughter was finally born. Induction was no fun, but I didn't need a c section. Good luck!!!!
  • I was just induced with cervidil and pit. We started at 0 and 0. Cervidil got me to .5 dilated and 50% eff. First bag of pit. got me to 2 cm and 80% (OB broke my water) then stalled after 8 hours. My nurse had a fresh bag compounded at the hospital pharmacy and had me flip sides I was laying on every 20 minutes. She also had to adjust the amount up and down when I flipped because my body responded better to it. Things happened very fast after that. My induction over all was 28 hours long and I pushed for 45 minutes.
    Good luck!

  • Thanks for the reply' I have GD as well ill let you know how it goes for me wish me luck plan on doing it naturally with no c-section. I'm so excited to meet LO
  • They just told me I'm going to be using cytotek instead anyone know anything about that
  • I went back through my birth notes after I typed this and I had cytotec, not cervadil.
  • I have been induced with all three of my babies with the same thing. I never had a bad experience. Good luck!
  • I started pitocin at 3pm at 4cm. My water broke around 4:30pm and I gave birth at 6:07pm. It wasn't a bad experience to be induced like I thought.

  • I hope it goes we'll for you. I had to go through it. Only 8 hours total and 40 minutes of pushing. This was my first child and besides me trying to go natural it wasn't bad. At 6 centimeters I needed the epidural. After that it was smooth! Best of luck!
