I have child with autism and we are trying really hard to make this a smooth transition for the whole family...
I was wondering if anyone has gone or is going through similar situation (or like have kids with behavioural difficulties) and what your experience was/has been?

Thanks :)

  • My 5 yr old daughter has a chromosome abnormality that has caused behavioral issues along with other delays. So far, she is an absolute angel when it comes to her brother. She is excited and already head over heels for him.

    Hey thanks for responding!
The same here! She seems excited Too but I guess I am just wondering how it will be when the baby is here...
    Thanks for your response :)
We will try to include her in everything with the baby for sure
  • I haven't been through this myself, but my 7 year old nephew is autistic and has ADHD. When his younger brother was born he was over the moon and wanted to help out with everything. Now they are the best of friends and do everything together!

I even took him along to my first scan so he could see his soon to be first cousin and he was grinning from ear to ear all day long, repeatedly saying 'I love my new baby' haha!
  • A lot of times when you have a child with a developmental delay, that child gets along better with younger children. Due to this they may be a lot closer. Also, like another poster said the child may want to be super helpful. I think it will be a great learning experience for your older child.
  • My oldest has ASD and ADHD and she absolutely loves her little sister and I think she'll be just as thrilled when her other little sister joins us.

My first two are only two years apart so they're close in age but I agree with the PP that kids with delays tend to gravitate towards younger kids. Often it's like they're the same age.

  • Hey ladies
Thanks a lot for the positive feedback, I totally agree she loves little kids and I realized she started googling how to care for a baby on YouTube too
I'm hoping that they become very close just like you are saying as she doesn't have too many friends and at times very lonely...

Really appreciate the sincere and kind words!!!

Agreed! I will totally include her to help with the baby...
  • I definitely feel you. My daughter has extreme behavior issues. Her transition with her two year old brother was very good but I am worried about this new baby because her issues are becoming worse.
