I don't really care too much about The Bump's new TOU. I also don't really care that they were trying to be sneaky about it. I am comfortable posting pictures of myself and DS on both Facebook and my Public Blog, so to me, it makes little difference if the Bump wants to take and use my photos/content- they are out there in the cyberverse anyway.
Heck, I think I'd be flattered if I saw my lovely mug on their website as a promo thing.
I also find it super annoying that people keep returning (not that I don't love you ladies who left us) just to stir shit up, fill up the board with a bunch of "warnings" about how horrible the Bump is and then leave. Again, I love you ladies and would love to have you back in the 'hood, but if you've decided to leave then maybe just do so. We are all aware of the fact that the Bump is a money hungry, corporate machine, but those of us who are still kicking around are cool with that.

I am also getting tired of the repetitive "ask your doctor" posts... Especially when they are rude and not helpful....I get some random posts have been a little out there with questions that should be directed at their doctors but most of the time people are sharing experiences and looking from some anecdotes and comfort.... I don't get the automatic assumption that they are using the anecdotes as a replacement to medical instructions! It's no different than mothers who compare stories and experiences with their friends... It doesn't mean they also aren't consulting their doctors!

That's all.
Thank you for all of this!! I actually am one of those who is uncomfortable with the new TOU photos thing, BUT I never felt comfortable putting baby pics on here (or Facebook or anywhere else) to begin with. So I didn't. Yeah, the way they are going about things is shady. But since I'm already so cautious, it doesn't affect me. (Btw, no judgment for you putting your baby pics online - that's a decision that every mom should make for herself!)
I'm even more in agreement over the whole only-here-to-wreak-havoc thing. I miss the people who've left, but I'm pretty sure the powers that be here know that there's a lot of unhappiness over their changes - and they just don't care at all. So the only thing those posts are doing is annoying the users who are still here, trying to make the best of things!
Exactly to both previous posts. If you are not happy here, and happy somewhere else, then go there. Be happy. And I'm pretty sure most of the medical sounding posters know to ask their drs and are just looking for support, too. Kinda like once my kid is born and I've been dealing with him/her screaming for 2 hours and have tried everything I know and I finally call my mom to ask her for help. Kinda like that.
My UO is related - when these posts are made and they annoy the other posters so much, why not just ignore them, instead of making fun of them? It would be more effective by letting the threads roll on to the next page out of non-use. And if these people truly ARE trying to solicit medical advice from a forum rather than their Dr, they will eventually go to the dr because they have been soundly ignored elsewhere.
I have GD, and I eat lo-carb 80% of the time. I had a donut today, and a bowl of cereal (sugary or not) every night before bed. My sister and others I know have had GD and shake their finger at me, but I think if my numbers are good after my meals, I should be able to have a treat.
I think people are failing to see the bigger issue. It's not all about the new TOU. It's about how they are treating long standing members of this community, who frankly, made this place what it is. I have been a part of various boards on TB for YEARS, and can't imagine being banned with little to no explanation. It's a huge slap in the face. I've referred tons of my friends and family members to these boards over the years, and I'm sure they've turned around and done the same. My days of recommending the bump as a wonderful community are over, they'll have to find their free marketing elsewhere.
And if you can honestly tell me you'd stick around a place that was nothing but "evaluate my symptoms" and "name my baby" threads all. day. long... then you probably need to find another hobby. That's not what this place is about. That's not what builds a community.
My UO is that I never thought The Bump was a community for us all to say super nice things to each other and never offend anyone. Sure, share experiences and get some general advice, but asking strangers for medical advice is ALWAYS A BAD IDEA. As is asking strangers to make other important decisions for you, like what level of intervention you should have at your delivery and what you're naming your offspring.
There ARE stupid questions, and there are stupid people. If someone is an idiot in real life, I'm generally not that nice to them. If people act like idiots on an online forum, I'm not going to coddle them and give them any benefit of the doubt just because it's not in person.
Some of you are new here, some of you are not. However, there is a large difference between "I have ass pains, what could it possible be?" Vs. "I have a pain in my ass, can anyone relate/has anyone else experienced that?" The first is an ask your doctor answer because even if I am a medical professional, it is unethical for me to give you a response. The second question would get an answer from me like "sure questions about naming your baby or if your baby can grow a penis unexpectedly cause me a pain in my ass when I log onto TB all the time!" There is also this special little thing called a symptoms post, usually daily where everyone can commiserate about their pains in the ass. If there's not one, by all means start one so there are not 20 posts about ass pain every 2 minutes. That gets old real fast. I know it's crazy to want some order and organization, right?! Also those who still cannot understand the anger over TOU and bannings, there is no hope for you/you are commenting on something you have no idea about.

I agree with all of this. I just wish the people that are so angry would hurry up and finish leaving so the rest of us can continue on. I honestly feel more comfortable now commenting than I did before. If you hate it here then move on. If you want a community lets build that back up.
There are definitely times people ask stupid questions. There are ways to handle that. Either ignore them or answer the question.. You do know some people are really just that stupid right? I mean I come across them all the time. So how do you deal with them in real life? I usually just ignore it and move on. So that's what I'm trying to do here as well.
I have a Daughter born 2/26/2013. She is pretty much amazing!

Exactly!! We need the newbie thread BAD!!! It's gone and so is our order.

The problem is that the majority of the people that are here now do not care about making this place a "community" again. There are still a handful of "regular" posters that actually offer intelligent advice, but everyone else seems to think this place is their personal Google. Hardly anyone contributes to HDBD or the daily symptoms threads anymore, and instead everyone makes a new thread talking about their incredibly common ailment. The newbies don't contribute anything except to ask their unbelievably stupid questions, only to get mad when people tell them to ask a doctor or read a book. Yes we can ignore the posts, or we can respond to their stupid questions with honest (even snarky) answers. These people are bringing children into the world. We owe it to our own children and the future generations not to blow glitter up everyone's butt. I still stick around because I guess I'm in denial and I like some of the people that are still here. But everyday I lose hope that this place will ever return to what it used to be.

I can't stand the word "momma". It's mama. There's another one along the same lines but pregnancy brain has eaten it at the moment. I'll come back and add it if I think about it.
Oh.... maybe it's "aweful", that's been popping up a shit ton lately. The word is awful. Why does no one care about proper spelling anymore. It hurts my English degree heart.

Both of these drive me crazy, too! Also "could care less" - it's "COULDN'T care less"!

What about 'WOULD OF" instead of "WOULD HAVE"?
And don't get me started on "YOUR" instead of "YOU'RE"!!!!!
Sort of along these lines I cringe when people just randomly replace vowels with "y" in names..... If you can think of a good example where it works and can change my mind... Feel free to enlighten me!

My name is devyn, it makes me feel less like a boy with the y. My middle name is also Leigh so...my entire name is a boy name hiding behind girly spelling.
Just to clarify. I completely understand why people are upset with the new TOU and I agree that things were done that were uncalled for. My UO was specifically about the photo/content rights stuff. That is the part that I personally don't really care about. I do appreciate that there are many people who are upset about this most recent shady bump business, which is why I wrote this in the UO thread.
As for the "everyone should be nice" and "there are no stupid questions" comments. I disagree. I'm all for keeping organization on the board via appropriately named daily threads and sometimes not so rosy redirection to appropriate sources of information. It's unfortunate that our newbie post is gone, so it will take a little while (and a lot of patience) to get thinks back in order, and I'm willing to work at rebuilding the community.
For those who think this is an impossible feat, that is your opinion, you're entitled to that. However, this board probably doesn't have much left to offer you, so maybe you should focus your time and energy where "the grass is greener".

Couldn't have said it better myself! That's why I've been trying to help rebuild the organization with proper threads. I think our community still has a chance. And as for the pictures, I wouldn't have put any on here to start with. Not even for my avatar which though not generic, still not my face, I save that for my private FB profile that I am realistic about how private it really is.
My sister's name on the other hand is opposite. Instead of kaytlin her name is spelled kaitlen.
Caitlyn is the traditional way, isn't it? Both of those look made up.
Oh, and fwiw I think the bump battle has been won by the SS's and boring newbies. No point in fighting to keep what was anymore. But I don't have the history (and thus, connection to it) that many of these women do.

That was my point. Both are wrong. I happen to like it better the way my sisters is spelled. Kaytlin happens to be common here. It's an example of the vowel being changed and then my aunt (my sister is adopted) changed it yet again.

I've been lurking the "other place" and I don't think the grass is greener. I've only been on this board since October, but there were always SSs, and people asking stupid questions, and people getting pissed off. Clearly that was half the fun for most of the regulars. If no one posts any of the stupid stuff, what's the point? No name posts, no medical questions, no sex guessing - WTF is left? Do you all really GAF what other people are eating for dinner?
It's basically a circle jerk over there anyway, with half the posts being how awesome those of you who signed up over there are and how stupid we all are for staying. Yet you keep coming back here for the drama, which is understandable because there's not that much interesting on the other board! As soon as people get over the split with TB, there will be even less to talk about. I wish all the crap that xo did hadn't happened, but what can you do? I'm genuinely surprised by the amount of butthurt displayed because of it. Imagine, a giant, faceless corporation putting profits above people's feelings. It's amazing.
My UO is my 'baby glow'........I am not glowing.......I am a sweaty manatee beast right now. SIL says pregnancy is a blessing. Yes - I am happy I can have this opportunity but do not tell me how much I am glowing because I will wipe my forehead on you!

Haha. You are amazing. (Oh wait? Is that borderline circle jerk material). But in all seriousness, I agree. I rather enjoy the daily ribbing of novice posters, don't ever change SSs!
I am an l & d nurse. I am so used to stupid questions it's not even funny. But the difference is that here I can pass by them and NOT respond. It's delightful.
My UO is that I LOVE SNOW! Lots of it!! More of it!!! I'm so happy to see how much has come in the NE and am looking forward to more!! It's supposed to snow all weekend long where I am. Wah hoo!!! "Get the skis shined up" (music note).
