Anatomy test found spot

went in yesterday for my anatomy ultrasound and they found a white spot on baby's heart. They want me to follow up and get an echocardiogram on the baby next week. I'm so worried has anyone had this happen???

Re: Anatomy test found spot

  • I've heard of it with friends acquaintances. Hoping the best for you.

  • I had this with DD. They didn't see any other signs and all my blood work came back normal so we chose not to do any further testing. She turns 4 next week and is healthy as a horse!
  • There have been a lot of posts with this issue. Most of the women who have had this come up have been told that it is a "soft" marker for Downs Syndrome. Did you have any earlier genetic testing that could shed more light on this?

  • I've heard of this often and it turns out to either resolve itself or not cause an issue. Are they suggesting you do genetic testing?

  • They found the same thing on my little cousin, and the doctor told my aunt the baby's chances of Downs Syndrome had doubled and urged her to abort. She had the baby anyway, and turns out it was nothing and she's a perfectly healthy 11 year old now! So oftentimes, it ends up being nothing.
  • I'm going back next week for another anatomy scan; dr didn't get specific as to why just said that he couldn't get a good pic of baby heart and she wasn't sitting properly. I of course think he saw something else and have been googling and praying ever since. I know exactly how you feel.

Aw sweetheart, don't borrow trouble. So so many people have to go back for a second a/s because the doc couldn't get a good view of something. Please don't drive yourself crazy assuming he saw something that he didn't mention or wasn't there. I have my follow up a/s next week because the baby was just a little too small to see everything. Try to just relax and don't fixate on hypothetical problems.

  • They didn't find anything on my anatomy scan, but they are sending me to get a fetal echocardiogram next week. Apparently there is a higher risk of issues with IVF babies and I'm old at 41. :) Hopefully everything looks okay for both of us!
  • I had my scan on thrusday and they saw a spot on the baby's heart too. I got bloodworm done that day since DH and I had chosen not to do any of the genetic testing previously and have a more in depth scan on Thursday this week. Good luck! I'm trying not to worry, but it's hard and I just keep reminding myself there is nothing I can do about it now and that I will still love my little boy no matter what the turn out.
  • I had mine done on Wednesday, everything measured and looks fine. The doctor wants to see me again in 1 month. As much as he had me move around to see if the baby moved, she never did. He couldn't measure her heart, because she was facing the opposite direction. He said not worry nothing is wrong, but what if there is?
  • Found a spot on the heart during my ultrasound to. The down syndrome test I had done several weeks ago came back negative. Also they didn't see any spots on any other organs, which Dr. said there would be if down syndrome was present . So I was told not to worry. I understand your concern though because I still am worried even though they reassured me that I shouldnt be. I hope that everything turns out fine for you to!
  • Don't worry about it. Stress could hurt your baby too. Just go for the additional tests and let them tell you everything is ok. It could be anything, I am 23w 4d and I am going in for my 5th u/s on the 17th. They found a spot on mine too. They found out that it is a small growth on my uterus and nothing to worry about. I stressed myself out so bad I was preparing myself for the worse only to find out it was a false alarm. Calm down and wait for them to tell you. DON'T USE GOOGLE! you'll just scare the crap out of yourself.
