Welcome to the First Time Mothers (FTM) check-in!

This is a thread for the FTM's in our PAIF community. Check-ins will be posted every other Thursday. On alternating Thursdays, I'll post a FT & BTDT moms' "Play Date" thread - in which we inexperienced first timers ask for advice and feedback from the more experienced ladies in our communities.

Congratulations, FTM! Let us know how you're doing this week. If you're new to the group, please provide your EDD and advise your trimester (I'd do it myself, but you know, math) - Let us know too if you're carrying more than one little bean/grapefruit/bowling ball (depending on how far you are along).

I'm adding a separate item for our FTM's, ordered by EDD (I think the list is just too long to post correctly).

QOTW: My recent carousel of roommates got me thinking of all of the different people I've had to share space with over the years. Do you have any roommate stories to share? It can be about your college roommate, a sibling, your spouse - - the prison roommate from your colorful past - - whatever. Share a good or a bad roommie memory.

Hello all! Today I'm 11w!!! My morning sickness was so bad my ob prescribed zofran. I took it for a few days but the side effects out weighed the puking. So I stopped taking it. We are announcing next Thursday and I'm so excited. I feel like I could burst keeping this secret.

@AMShark‌ So do I post my question now or next week?

QOTW: my best friend and I shared an apt for a year. My old Boston terrier hated her with a passion and would wait for her to get all dressed up for a date then walk over and lift his leg on her shoes. Now I have to say. He never ever had accidents in the house or ever disliked anyone else. Years later they made up and he was very fond of her. Lol.

I am 14 weeks today and super excited to have made it to the second trimester. I have been very fortunate. I'm still tired, but otherwise feeling good.

QOTW: Other than my husband I have never really had a roommate. I don't think that really counts. We have had several people stay with us to help them get on their feet, but I don't really have any stories to share. When I was a teenager, my little brother used to come into my room and take all of my clothes out of the dresser and throw them on the floor. It drove me crazy, but we didn't share a room.

15 weeks and some days here! if you saw my post, I am having a lot of anxiety about birth defects since my dr insisted I do that quad screen at my next appointment. PRAYING everything is fine and I am just ridiculous. I am feeling more pregnant now, I think I might be starting to show more than just bloat but I cant tell.

QOTD-I have had a slew of roommates! some good, some less than good. DH is the best roommate because he cooks and cleans! But I am glad I got to experience living with some of my best friends too.

23w4d here! No real complaints but swear my belly grows overnight every night. Hoping I can kick this cold over the weekend and get back to yoga- my hips would really appreciate it.

If all goes well at our growth/heart scan on Monday, I think I may make a small Facebook announcement.

QOTW- I have had a few roomies, but always did better on my own. One of the horror stories is that I came home one night and my roommate at the time was watching porn in the living room and masterbating with her dildo on the couch. For all who walked in the door to see. Ugh.

@sweetpotato123 - Jesus. You win.

I'm 30 weeks tomorrow and really frustrated with the overwhelming fatigue. @gsancho's Thankful Thursday thread helped remind me to focus on the positive: everything is this pregnancy is looking great, and I'm so lucky to have made it this far with what appears to be a healthy little girl.

QOTW: I could write a book! I had so many roommates during all my grad school years. Some amazing, some nightmarish. Some of my best friends now are people I shared housing with that I never would have met in my normal circles, like the aesthetician who owns her own spa now in Seattle, or the climbing bum couple who live in Moab. I think my favorite story is a guy named Greg. My first roommate had left suddenly in the cover of night because I was mad at her about something that I thought wasn't a big deal, but she was too cowardly to apologize (CRAZY and long story). I advertised for a new one, and up walked this guy who was so beautiful that I thought, "I could date him, but he canNOT be my roommate." As we talked that day, we found out we had so much in common--both big NPR fans, loved crossword puzzles, playing cards, cooking vegetarian food, etc. This was solidifying my position that he would be an idiotic choice. Then he said the most beautiful words he could have uttered to me: "My boyfriend..." I almost danced a jig. He moved in quickly, we lived together for almost two years, and it was DREAMY. He's trying to be a rock star in DC now, and I still adore him.

Hello! I'll have more of an update tomorrow, after our OB appointment. I hope we can get a good shot of her - she usually gets into weird positions and I haven't even seen a profile shot. 27w5d today! Movements seemed to have slowed this week, which get me all worried again, but I'm sure it's just something that happens.

OMG @sweetpotato123 that story!! What year was this?? Who still watches porn on TV? She couldn't watch it on her computer in her room like a normal person? Please tell me it was a VHS she was watching, just to make it even better.

QOTW: I don't have any crazy stories or roommates...the most entertaining was when I lived with 3 guys - probably where I get my sarcastic and dirty humor from. The only bad story was one girl in college I got paired up with who would "diet" by eating only tuna from a can for every meal. She did it for 2 weeks once - made her take the trash out regularly. She's probably sick from mercury poisoning somewhere.

@gsancho‌ - I think it was 2007. She didn't have her own computer at the time and apparently had a collection of DVDs. I honestly forgot about it until the question popped up and now I'm horrified all over again!

Afm- nothing really new to report as I'm waiting for my mfm appt next week. My belly is just growing exponentially and my pajama pants are starting to not fit.

Qotw- I don't have any crazy roommate stories. Besides my dorm roomie freshman year and significant others, I lived by myself.

11w1d with the twins. Belly is pooching out and the boobs have grown exponentially in the last week. DH is a happy camper. Feeling good except uber-tired. I'm ready for the energy of 2nd tri! We go for another U/S Monday, and then we're spilling the beans! I'm so ready to have this news be out-- most close friends know, but I'm tired of tiptoeing around others.

QOTW- I've had some annoying roommates, but no good stories. At least not any that can top the stories above!

16w2d here and just fighting off a gross head cold. Had a growth scan with MFM on Tuesday and we found out both babies are boys! They'll double check on future scans, but they were pretty sure. We didn't have a preference for any sex combination, but it's fun now to know and be thinking about what's in store for these little guys when they finally get here. QOTW: No crazy roommate stories, but my first roommate in my college dorm had a much older, super control freak of a boyfriend. He'd call at random hours of the night to be sure she was in her room and not out doing anything he didn't approve of. Weekends he'd come visit or she would have to go to his place. If for some reason he was busy on a weekend and she had to stay at school, she had to spend most of the weekend in our dorm room in case the phone rang when he was checking up on her (this was before it was common for everyone to have cell phones.) It was really, really sad. She dropped out after one semester and last I knew she was married to him. I like to imagine they both got some help and have a normal trusting relationship, but I'm sure that's unlikely.

Phew - I'm having a crazy morning of supporting committee meetings in Louisiana, from my hospital room in NJ.

Sorry about the mess that the FTM list has become. It's the only way I could get it to post. It seems that its not just me, TB has made some kind of update to their character limits that has made adding participant lists for check-ins challenging.

@justone13 - Next week we'll have the "play date" & I'll invite the BTDT mom's to answer our questions. If you can hold on to the question, that'd be good. (Or, I can start a new thread now to start gathering questions for next week - then I can organize them & put them in the play date thread next Thursday. Whatever people want).

@sweetpotato123 - Oh my. There are some things you just can't un-see.

AFM - I've been doing well, overall. I'm now 28w1d! I totally count the days - every day counts. Starting last week, my MFM added a 3rd 1 hour monitoring session to my daily plan. This is because Baby A's heart beat was occasionally decelerating below a normal rate - so, we're keeping a close eye on it. Unfortunately, babies are not cooperating with the monitors, and they've been moving like crazy & hard to keep on the monitors recently. Baby B doesn't know how to sit still, she's been head down, but down, head down again, and it now feet down. Perhaps she'll be a dancer.

QOTW: I feel like I've shared all the detail on my hospital roommates, and overall, I've been lucky there. I will be forever grateful to my college roommate who introduced me to punk music. I remember going to basement punk shows with this girl - I stuck out like a sore thumb in mainstream clothes - like gap jeans and a sweater, when everyone else was in black or plaid with lots of spikes and manic panic colored hair. To this day, when I go to a punk show, I look like a soccer mom, going to pick up my kids... but the music is still excellent.

But, my most memorable roommate would be my sister. We shared a room for 16 years. We had a little 12", rabbit eared tv (for our Nintendo system - Super Mario Bros!!). We used to watch it at night on the weekends, and the first person to put her glasses on the nightstand, could roll over and go to sleep. The other person would have to get out of bed to turn off the tv. (This seems so foreign now that every tv has a remote control). I remember one night, I took my glasses off first, but my sister didn't want to get out of bed. So, she tried to talk me into getting up to turn off the tv. And I said, "No, you do it. , I'm all comfy."

My sister got out of bed, but instead of turning off the tv, she ripped off my blankets, threw them down the stairs, and shouted,"Well, you're not comfy now." She was really surprised that I was angry with her. She couldn't stop laughing.

I see the humor now, but at the time, I was livid.

I know I don't participate very often anymore, but I do think of you all! My twins are 6 weeks old! Time is flying its been very busy but AMAZING! I have to remind myself that this is all real and I actually have two babies! Everything is going good. BF has been harder than I thought. Ive BF, pumped, and supplemented with formula but I've stopped beating myself up about not being able to exclusively bf. I'm doing my best and that will have to do :-). My mom has been coming and helping about 3 days a week. I'm having her not stay as long this week because its REALLY starting to cause more stress with her being here. (You just have to know my mom, she has many opinions about how dh and I do things and she always let's us know! I think ill appreciate her help more if she's here less!)

QOTD: about 5 years ago dh and I had just moved into our apt. My best friend was getting kicked out of her house and I being the nice person I am told her she could stay with us for $100 per month until she could get her own place. Well long story short she came with her toddler and never cleaned up after herself or him. Ate our food and never paid us. She also tried to get me to pay for her dress to be in my wedding and that did not happen so she told me to have a nice life and we haven't spoken since. I learned my lesson for being too nice to friends! That's the last time I offer a place to stay for anyone that isn't family.

Eta: wanted to add that I may have a pacu nursing position and the manager is willing to work with me and be creative with a schedule that will work for me :-) just glad to hopefully have an awesome job lined up after having to quit my last one with a less than supportive manager

Hi Ladies - 1 1/2 weeks in and things are a million times better. Went to the Ped today and learned our little boy is up to 6lbs, 10oz - that is above his birth weight and a 9oz increase from Thursday. The Ped was basically like - ok, you guys are fine, you can go home - nothing left to do here. He is still small of course but gaining weight and they are very happy with his progress. And we don't need to go back until his 1 month appt!

Ped also told me not to worry if he doesn't want to eat every 2 hours (during the day he goes closer to 3 hours during the day, 1 1/2 hours in the evening when he clusters, and then 4 - 4 1/2 hours overnight. (Ped said to consider it a gift!)

We are still mostly housebound - other than Ped appointments due to all the ridiculous snow and cold - and we are getting more snow tomorrow - ugh!

My parents are here - they came last Weds and leave Sunday. Initially we were going to do the first week solo but due to my inability to really move (deeply/severely bruised/fractured tailbone) they came early. They have been wonderful but my mom is driving me nuts. I am the kind of gal that likes her space. My mom can be overbearing and doesn't get that I am not my sister who overshares everything. But I am thankful they were able to come and help out since it has allowed DH and I to really just focus on little A.
