Do I need to change Doctors?

Every appointment I've had they have messed stuff up. The first appointment they thought I was a completely different patient who was there for a regular appointment when I was actually there because I was bleeding and thought I was having a miscarriage. The second time she ordered 20 million tests and scared the shit out of me and everything came back totally normal.

My most recent appointment today they asked if I took a glucose test at my last appointment. I told them I had. They told me they have no record of it. They didn't believe me that they made me drink the horrible orange flavored soda drink and I needed to do it again or do a fasting glucose test the next morning. This seemed odd to me so I called my insurance company to see if there was a claim for the glucose screening test. Guess what. There was. My insurance company paid for the glucose test and the doctors somehow have no record of it? I called my doctor back and told them what I found out. They didn't believe me. It's still unresolved and is left that my doctor is going to call my insurance to figure this out.

Every single appointment the nurse calls me in and does the pre-appointment stuff and then EVERY appointment I sit in the room for over an hour before the doctor finally comes in. Then the spends exactly 16 minutes with me and brushes of my questions about the birthing process telling me it's too early to talk about it. Then she's gone and that's it. Half a day gone for 16 minutes with the doctor.

All this crap has really rubbed me the wrong way. I feel like I need to change Doctors, what would you all do if you were in my position?

Re: Do I need to change Doctors?

  • I would get a new dr if it were me. Sounds like a lot of BS that you shouldn't have to deal with.
Please excuse typos....auto correct hates me. =)

  • I would change doctors.
  • I agree with the others; I would look for another doctor. My doctor has me in and out of the office in a matter of an hour tops.
  • I've never been to a doc that awful. I'd definitely change Ob's.

  • I would get tired real fast of dealing with that
  • I'd switch. With my doctor I do end up waiting way too long but it's because she really does take the time to talk to me about everything and answer all my questions and just make sure that I am completely comfortable with everything. But you definitely do not sound like you are either happy or comfortable with her. When the time actually comes to have the baby you are going to want someone that you are comfortable with and that you have total confidence in.
  • Imagine when it's time to give birth ! You need to have %110 of trust & comfort in your doctor.
  • Definitely switch!!!! If you feel this way now you will be super anxious going into labor. It's not worth it and there is plenty of time to find one you like.
  • I switched doctors and I am so relieved! If your heart says switch then switch!
  • Switch! You spend a lot of time at the doctor when you are pregnant so you may as well find some place that won't screw up every appointment. Better to switch now than later on. I had to change last time and was glad I did.
  • Switch for sure!
  • SWITCH NOW!
You don't say how far along you are, but considering you are on the July board, I'm assuming about 20 weeks and under. (I'm 19+1 due july 1). I always thought the glucose test wasn't until 24-28 weeks gestation. Unless there is another type I am unaware of, but I know with my last pregnancy that is when I drank that orange drink. My doc this time also said same time frame.

It sounds like your doctors office is very disorganized and information is not being recorded properly. This would be so frustrating to continue to deal with for the duration of your pregnancy. You want a doctor who is familiar with you and your case history when you give birth.
Do you have any friends or family in your area who could recommend a doc?
    Good luck!
  • I'd switch. That sounds absolutely miserable.
  • Just because you are given a doctor you don't have to keep them you have a right to find a doctor you like and feel comfortable with. I would get a new doctor if I were on that situation. You should always research your doctor to see what others say. And when you do meet them be sure you. Both agree and are on the same page about what you want, that they listen and explain things to your liking.
  • Like others have said, time to move on.

  • That is so discouraging for you! I would say you definitely want to be comfortable with your doctor. I sounds like might be much more stress free and happy with a switch.
  • I would absolutely change doctors if I were you, there are too many wonderful ones out there to put up with ones like that.

    Goodluck to you! :)
  • I would also switch right away!!

  • Its only going to get worse from here. I ignored everything like that my first pregnancy and I had a horrible birth in which I had no say in. (So I feel. While I had an emergency c-section, I know 3 hours before I gave birth they already decided I was needing a c-section and didn't discuss it with me other than mentioning it once and walking out before I could respond.) Find a doctor you like now, that will listen to you and make you feel confident. You are paying them, you get to decide if they are worth it or not.
    Good luck. :)
  • They sound EXTREMELY unorganized! I am an RN and have worked in clinics and can see huge, unsafe mistakes being made in the future for this office! (Maybe not you necessarily but someone.) I would definitely switch, even though it will be a pain, doctors visits should be an exciting time for you!
  • I'm from the UK so lots of this stuff confuses me... Why exactly do you need a glucose test, do they do it routinely? It's really not medically indicated unless you have prior history, clinical symptoms or glucose in your urine x
  • And here doctor wise you get what you are given but if I was paying privately like you are I would want to receive a service I am happy with x
  • Definitely switch. If they're that careless and not concerned with your questions now, imagine how much worse it will be when you are actually in labor delivering a baby.
  • Switch. At a dr office the least you should be worrying about are lost records and paperwork
  • Switch switch switch!! Trust your mommy gut feeling!!
  • This reminds me of my family doctor and his office. I think pregnancy is such a special experience and it would be lame to let some unprofessional doctor ruin it for you! I would definitely start looking for a new one and google their names to see if they have reviews! That's what I did with mine and although she's pretty unenthusiastic and more 'serious' the office is super organized and I've been happy with the whole process.
