Annoying Coworker Help (long)

hi ladies!! Hope to get your opinions on how to handle a ridiculous coworker!! I am a high risk pregnancy and had some complications around 20 weeks which my work is well aware of. I'm 29 weeks now and even though things are going well I am having the normal aches and pains of pregnancy (tired, braxton hicks, pressure, the whole list of stuff we go thru). The only thing that seems to help is getting up from my desk and walking around which nobody except 1 coworker has a problem with. I even got a dr note bc she has made it such a big deal. She's rude and has made comments and even turned my office light off to make it look like I left without telling anyone. I have brought this up to my boss who said she'd say something to her but just usually makes light of things.. How would you handle this? I didn't want to make it a big deal but she's caused so much tension and I'm just so over it.

  • Then be over it and let her continue to look like an ass all on her own. You can't change her opinions or her actions and it seems like everyone else is supportive so why spend your precious energy even worrying about it. I know, easier said than done but as long as your boss is happy with your work, who cares?
  • I'd ignore her. I'm sure people get annoyed with me constantly getting up to go pee or going and laying down in my car for 15 minutes but I haven't had anyone say anything. If she's has the same position as you or are the same rank in your job it shouldn't matter. The only one I would want to make sure is fine with is the boss. I was told I might not be able to attend my pregnancy classes/prenatal yoga that I use my lunch break for and I threatened to bring it to HR, nobody has said anything since.

  • Thanks guys, your right. It's just not worth it... Some days though people can get on your last nerve!!
  • If your boss knows now I would try to let it go. Not knowing the situation completely I would think it is highly unlikely that this person will change their behavior. But if it continues or escalates I would think about confronting her - in a polite and professional manner.

If you decide to confront her it might be a good idea to let your boss or HR know. That way there is a documented trail of the issue and she will have a difficult time trying to turn it around on you. Be sure to have examples with dates. HR may even have some advice for the situation.

This.  The only person you have to worry about is your Boss.  If they know what's going on and are cool with you walking around, your co worker is just making herself look like a jerk.

Or you can puke in her trash can on your way by...  Morning sickness...  Just make sure you take her trash out afterwards.  lol

Or leave the trash in there and let her take it out. ;-)
  • It sounds like she is really getting to you and that is not good for you and the baby.

Next time she turns off your light when you leave your desk, I would pull her aside and tell her not to turn off your light when you leave your desk anymore. If she comes up with the excuse that she didn't know if you had left for the day, tell her she doesn't need to worry about that. You will take care of your own desk light.

If she makes rude comments, you can repeat exactly what she said and then add that her comment sounds like she's trying to be hurtful and she seems angry. Let her be responsible for what she says.

If she continues to harass you, report her to HR.
  • Tell her to suck it. She sounds like she is a b&$@# and isn't worth your time or worry. As long as your supervisor isn't worried and getting up to stretch/walk isn't affecting your productivity it isn't any of her business.
  • I might just puke in her trashcan! That's hysterical!!!!! Thanks everyone, I've let it go and l just don't care anymore. Screw it!!!
