2nd Trimester

Ultrasound Tech won't tell us gender..BUT..

Ok ladies, need your help interpreting this one.

We went to my 20wk ultrasound today all excites to learn the gender, but the tech declined to tell us. She said my OB will tell us at the next appointment. But it's in 3 weeks! So long to wait..

So anyways DH and I went home and looked at our images saved on a disc, and I noticed that the image files were named LASTNAMEXX00, LASTNAMEXX02, etc.

Does that mean we might be having a girl?! Anybody with a son who has images named XY? Ahhhh dying to know.

Re: Ultrasound Tech won't tell us gender..BUT..

  • Not sure about the XX, but just call your doctor. I'm sure the nurse will tell you. :) good luck!
  • Loading the player...
  • No you're wrong...most ultrasounds past 18 weeks can tell the gender, unless the baby is in a position where it isn't visible.

Our OB specifically asked us whether we wished to learn the gender from this ultrasound, and we had said yes. Hence why we were expecting to know, but are a bit disappointed.
  • So yea...pretty sure it's the policy of the ultrasound place not to reveal and to leave it to the doctor.
  • Uhhhh thanks, appreciate your openness. If my child identifies as the opposite of their physical identity, I'm of course open to it and would support them through what they needed.

But that's not what I'm try to find out here.

I just wanted to know if my tech saw a penis.
    1. That's exactly what you're asking by using the word gender.
    2. If you really can't wait the 3 weeks call your doctor and ask.
    3. LASTNAMEXX is just how it's coded, it has nothing to do with the sex of the baby.
    4. Did they not give you copies of your pictures? I find that strange.
  • Just wait three weeks. DH and I are waiting the whole 40 weeks to find out. If we can do that, you can wait for three.
  • I think everyones needs to relax. Alot of people get excited and wants to know the sex. When i went for my anatomy scan i saw the tech type in xy on the screen and it turned out to be a boy. So it could be a girl if they had xx. Hard to say tho
  • Oh my , that sucks they didn't tell you at the appointment. I don't know why they wouldn't !
The tech asked us if we wanted to know and when we said yes, she had me on my side , put the wand on my belly and low and behold, we saw a penis lol was very hard to miss lol.

Hope that you get to find out soon shouldnt be too much longer !!
  • Wow. Got my first warning. For making a valid point. Go bump!

That's ok, I even edited out my profanity and they STILL deleted my post.
    Power trip much @BumpAdmin‌?
  • I would just call your OBs office and ask. You own the pictures, the doctor is merely the medical "interpreter" you have hired, and you have a legal right to full access to your medical records so really this should be a non-issue if you ask (and maybe fill our paperwork if they are picky about it).

I feel like she said gender because she wanted to know if it's a boy or girl. Not for someone to come correct her. She is a first time mom like I am and is excited and looking for an opinion on her question not for someone to correct her grammar. This is a beautiful thing why can't people just answer her question whether she used gender or sex you know what the heckk she meant. I don't think she's looking for a smarta answer that tells her nothing I have no idea if xx maters of

The sex vs. gender issue is much, much more than grammar. But thank you so much for your thoughts!
  • wow some of you people need a chill pill, do you just go on the internet correcting people? .......... that's pretty lame
  • It's annoying af when there's daily posts about the importance of using sex instead of gender. I'm not saying it isn't important but these women are not trying to start anything by saying gender. Its all redundant. Keep going in circles trying to force people to say sex when gender is more commonly used even in a professional setting.

  • Ugh. It wouldn't have to be a debate if people didn't get so ridiculously offended that someone pointed out the difference. It only escalates when the speshul sneuxflake posters react defensively. That's what's annoying af.

This, this, so much this. I saw a post earlier where this was pointed out innocently as information to the OP. She said something along the lines of "Wow, I never knew that. Thanks for the information, I hope I didn't offend anyone". That is how you should respond.
