GD Check-In 2/3

For those of you still out there...
  1. How many weeks?
  2. Treatment/Regimen?
  3. Any changes, updates, burning questions?
  4. QOTW: What's your prediction? Early spring or six more weeks of winter?

Re: GD Check-In 2/3

  • I can't exactly answer these questions. I passed the glucose test, and everything was fine. At my last appointment (37w) the doctor randomly checked my sugars, it was 169. She was also concerned because ultrasound shows baby weight as 8.1 pounds. (We both know it's not totally accurate) for the past week she had me testing my sugars 4 times a day and recording them. Tomorrow I go in and have my next appointment. I'm scared because my numbers are really bad. I eat entirely healthy. My numbers sky rocket two hours after eating and drop insanely low (I shake and get dizzy etc) in between meals/snacks. I'm really scared they will induce me early for this issue. I'm a FTM so I don't know how they handle an issue like this being almost 38 weeks.

  • 37.2 weeks
Glyburide morning, evening and insulin at night.
I had some really low days all of a sudden to the point where I had the shakes and had to pop candy. Very unusual for me as I usually struggle with high numbers. Now my blood pressure was up and am testing for preeclampsia.
Soooo over these last few weeks of tortured pregnancy!
  • Ladies, I am so sorry to hear these last weeks are so difficult!

@usmcwife89, I can't speak too much to these specific issues, but I have learned a few things that might be of interest. First, as you mentioned, the scans are unreliable, and it's really refreshing to hear that your doc has indicated this to you. Second, more than the estimated fetal weight on its own, the important things seem to be proportionality of head circumference and abdominal circumference (you don't want abdominal to be too big). Also, the percentile that the fetus is in for weight - and how this has or has not changed over time. See if you can get some of this information. Third, I was told that the most important factor in preventing hypoglycemia in the baby at birth is well-controlled sugars in the final week before birth. I would see if you can get your doc to get on this straight away. There have to be some measures you can take, or the doc can put you on meds. It's such a short amount of time, and the goal is just to be well-regulated. Also, it has nothing to do with how you eat. Okay, that's not entirely true, we know it does, but what I'm saying is you can be completely and totally healthy - eat well, exercise, etc., and still be plagued by this. It's hormonal. It can be really really hard, but try not to feel guilty on top of all of the other emotions! It's not your fault!!

@carisma, sorry to hear about the sudden change. What does the doc say? Is it the hormone levels evening out? Is it worth asking about switching to insulin during the day? Thinking of you!
  • Weeks: 39 + 5
Regimen: still just checking fbs and one or two other times

In doctor's office now for my weekly check up-will be interesting to see if there is any change but probably not my luck-haha.

NC's weather is so bipolar so it will prob feel like spring some days and winter the others for the next 6 weeks. Oh joy!!

Everything is coming to an end-exciting and scary at the same time but yay!!
  • Weeks: 36w 5d
Regimen: 2.5mg glyburide at night; testing 4x per day
Changes/Updates: Started weekly NST / BPP and had 36w growth scan yesterday. Baby is perfectly healthy and "normal" -- I've been cleared (at least for the next two weeks when they reevaluate based on 38w NST/BPP/growth scan) for the least medically invasive birth plan I want AND to go to 40w6d before induction.

Unrelated but super frustrating -- after a great workout yesterday, and running errands, I got home, kicked off my shoes, and got a horrible pain in my outer knee. I basically can't walk. What?!? Arg. I just want to go to yoga and the gym!

Prediction: It's looking like winter winter winter from where I am.
