Laundry detergent??

Does anyone have advice on the type of laundry detergent to use?
I've always heard about Dreft, but we've been using some nice Seventh Generation fragrance free detergent for a while.
Im not sure which is more all natural... We have a bottle of dreft.

Im just not sure which to wash all the baby clothes in!

Any input would be awesome.
Thanks ladies

Re: Laundry detergent??

  • I use a fragrance free detergent for all of our clothes. I don't think it's necessary to buy another detergent if you are using one like that.

  • Agree with pp. We use fragrance free on our clothes and baby clothes. I wash them all together at times, too.

  • We use fragrance free Dreft for all the baby clothes and linens. Our detergent is Tide, which I've heard is ok for baby, but to be on the safe side we've decided to use Dreft; just in case ;)
    BabyFetus Ticker
  • I buy one bottle of Dreft and when it runs out I switch over to the Tide Free that I use for the rest of the family. I really have no idea which is better, but I like the baby smell of the Dreft for the first little bit.
  • We used All Free and Clear. If you read the ingredients of the Dreft ad compare it to the other detergent that you use. Dreft is basically the same as All free and clear but much more expensive.

  • I use Purex free and clear ... Seems to be the best value for the money around here. And I use it for all of our clothes, not just baby's. If there's a particularly yucky load going (spit up/blow out) I add vinegar BC it will help sanitize. I also nixed all dryer sheets since they can cause irritation to baby's skin as well.
  • 7th gen is going to be your most natural as dreft is very similar to all free and clear. I would stick with that!!!
  • I think any brand of the free and clear will work..I choose Tide
  • The husbandman and I are both allergic to scented laundry detergent, so all of our stuff is free and clear anyways.  BUT I bought Dreft because it smells like babies.  I'm not going to lie, while folding Little Man's laundry, I always bury my face in his clothes because it smells so good.

However, when it runs out, I'll just use whatever free and clear detergent we have on hand.

  • No need to use Dreft. I'd suggest a free and clear detergent, like All Free and Clear.
  • I use Dreft for the first year or so....

  • Does anyone have any recommendations for a laundry detergent that will remove the spit up/vomit smell? I use ALL free and clear but its not cutting it. Freshly laundered baby clothes still smell like sour milk. Do you have to use a fragrant detergent to get the smell out? I would think it would only mask it. Thanks for any help.
  • With DS I used Tide Free and didn't have that problem. I don't know if it was the detergent or just luck.
  • @Shell740, what works for one person doesn't always work for another. Different families have different washers - some use more water, some use agitators, some are front loading - and different water (ex. hard water vs. soft). I wish I had some specific advice, but I'd say just try different things and see what works. You can try adding a water softener (I think one is called Calgon) to the wash if you have hard water. You can try using more detergent. I know nothing about washing soda, but I know some people add that to the wash. Ditto OxiClean. GL!
  • I use Legacy of Clean SA8 it's ranked #1 by consumer reports for getting your clothes clean. I have super sensitive skin and it works great for me . It's hypoallergenic and an all natural and green company everything they make is green and all natural not only safe for me and baby but for the environment. If you want more info just message me and I can tell you where to get it. :)
