Compression socks/stockings/hose

Just within the last week my legs have really started to ache and my veins are really starting to pop out (yeah pregnancy). I wanted to buy some type of compression sock, stocking or hose but was wondering if anyone had any recommendations? They are hard to find in the stores and I am most likely going to have to order them online. I wear scrubs and tennis shoes for work do I am kinda leary of hose and would probably perfer socks. My next appointment is next week and I'll definitely talk to my doctor about it.Thanks for all your help in advance!

Re: Compression socks/stockings/hose

  • I got some zip sox. They fit into my shoes and help a lot. They go knee high.

  • I highly recommend this pair of stockings with high open toe...too bad I got it at the original price now that it's on sale.

I've never heard of zip sox, I'll have to look into those. Thanks!
  • definitely talk with your OB, mine gave me a pair and they work great! her office is stocked with all sorts of goodies, maybe you'll be lucky too!

I'm hoping my OB will have some too!
  • Ask your doc for a prescription for compression socks.  My sister needs them for medical reason and is able to get them at a medical supply store for about 8 dollars a pair.

  • I got some at Ross and Marshalls in the traveling section because it is recommended during long travel (pregnant or not).
  • I love compression socks. Being on my feet all day as a nurse and taking many an international flight, I've worn them long before getting pregnant. Also, DH and I went to China last October (13 hour flight) and I wore them on the way there, but accidentally put them in my checked bag on the way back. The difference was like night and day. My ankles and feet were mildly swollen for days after the returning flight.

Also, compression socks should go at least to knee and be wearable for 12hrs minimum. I believe they go by S/M/L based on shoe size and you should expect to pay at least $20 a pair. I got mine as a gift when I graduated nursing school way back when and I have no idea what brand they are, but the guy who gave them to me said he got them on Amazon for like 2 for $40. My only other suggestion is that if you have sweaty feet, get open-toed ones and make sure you're not sliding around too much in your shoes which can cause discomfort, blisters, etc.
