3rd Trimester

baby doesn't startle at loud noises in womb

I'm 39 weeks and he moves constantly, but I'm concerned about his hearing because he doesn't react to loud noises. Is this something to worry about? Any thoughts or experience?

Re: baby doesn't startle at loud noises in womb

  • I seriously wouldn't stress. If he's born with hearing abnormalities, it'll still be okay, but I think it's way too early to diagnose or worry about.

  • I dont recall that happening while I was pregnant and my baby is fine. no worries.

They will check his hearing in hospital after birth.

    Relax and enjoy this time

  • Maybe you should ask your doctor
  • Did you read somewhere that baby is supposed to startle easily? I don't recall my first doing that and this baby doesn't either.
  • This content has been removed.
  • How does an unborn baby "startle"? He's active, be grateful for that. And chill out.
  • You have to remember the baby has vernix in his ears, then is under water, then inside your uterus, then behind fat and muscle and skin. A loud noise is quite muffled before he could hear it. My baby seems to get more still/quiet when I am someplace noisy or play loud music. I figure it is interesting to her.

Seriously, this is not something to worry about. Enjoy the last little bit of your pregnancy :)

  • My little girl doesn't either.  I'll take everyone's word for it that she's perfectly fine though.

  • Did you have genetic testing done? Being a carrier of hearing loss is one of the tests/results. I wouldn't worry at this point, you're almost due and they will test once born
