my face :(

Hi mommas! I haven't posted much, but im having some serious hormone problems. Aside from feeling crazy, all. the. time. My face is broken out like im a 12 year old pre-pubescent girl. I cannot stand it! I've been eating healthy and washing my face twice a day. This is my first pregnancy. I was just wondering if there are any tips or tricks for acne.

Re: my face :(

  • I know a lot of people have success using apple cider vinegar as a toner. I bought some and I think it helped a little, but I'm still breaking out mildly. Idk what else to do!

  • Def. try the apple cider vinegar because everyone is different, but it dried my face out so bad and then made my face start peeling. I think it dried it out so bad it made me break out more. I'm just telling you this as warning so you know what to expect. Otherwise I have no idea what to use. My face it terrible and I just cake on the makeup of I go out because it is the only way I feel half way presentable. Good luck!
  • I ordered Belli brand face wash from Amazon. It seems to be helping a little

  • I would recommend asking your OB to refer you to a dermatologist.  A trick that works for one person could make your situation worse because you have different skin types.  A dermatologist can assess your skin to try to determine what the problem is and how to fix it.  Hopefully your OB knows one that's good at working with pregnant women and understands the hormones that are running through your body.
  • I second @FirstTimeDaddy81, go to a dermatologist....if you don't want to go that route though, I've used a coconut oil scrub and Sea Breeze....but, it is all dependent on your skin type and it is very true that you may try something that may make it worse.

If you wear makeup, make sure you clean your brushes as much as possible....the oils from your face get trapped in them and you end up smearing it back on your face, thus clogging the pores.

I also use apricot scrub, they all worked well for me.

  • I wash my face with regular coconut oil and rinse it off with just hot water and a wash rag. Seems to be helping with me but I've also had acne since even before getting pregnant. It's worth a try but I agree with PP that it may not necessarily work for your skin type.
  • I use the belli brand face wash and spot treatment. It seems to work for me.bthe only downside is it's kind of spendy.
  • I started using a clarisonic with cetaphil and it has made a huge difference. The clarisonic was a little pricy, but totally worth it imo.
  • I use Dr Bronners I prefer the peppermint and it has helped my skin magically

OP, how far along are you? My breakouts were awful the past few weeks, but I feel like lately it's been a little better (17 weeks). Hoping that means I'm past the worst!

  • My dermatologist put me on Finacea - a topical cream.  It seems to work pretty well.

  • My face is breaking out too but only on my chin! It will go away and I'll think its all gone and then a week later I have another massive zit on my chin! I'm 15 weeks and first time mommy so I too am hoping this will pass soon!
  • I'm 15 weeks & my face is kinda starting to clear up, but it's stil pretty bad! Everyone swore by apple cider vinegar, but it did nothing for me.. I use some face cleansers from Lush! They hand make fresh products & they're all organic so you don't have to worry about chemicals or anything! But nothing's really helped me a whole lot :(
  • I wasn't aware that you aren't supposed to use certain acne washes during pregnancy (like salicylic acid), so my only advice is to double check for safety.
  • I'm 15 weeks and my face has been breaking out like crazy since the moment I actually got pregnant. I asked my OB for a referral to a dermatologist and she told me to not even waste my time bc most things they have a harmful. She recommended using Neutrogena facial bar and Astringent. I use the astringent 2-3 times a day and wash my face with Dove bar soap and it helps (some). She also didn't guarantee it would help and that it most likely won't go away until about 6 weeks after giving birth. So good luck girl, I'm in the same boat!!!
  • I've been experiencing the same since getting off of the pill to get pregnant. It calmed down a bit but is now back in full swing at my 15 week mark. Since I can't use anything from the dermatologist's office, I wash twice daily and use a toner, gentle scrub twice a week, change my pillow case often, and get a facial once a month. Seems to be keeping it in check. Good luck.

  • Pregnancy hormones will do that. I have the same issue. But you may be washing your face too much. As being too dry can cause breakouts as well.
