Prilosec?

my dr gave me a script today for Prilosec and I questioned that it was in the category c for drugs and he wasn't concerned but I'm still not sure how I feel about taking it.

Anyone else dr prescribe this med?everything turn out ok?

Re: Prilosec?

  • Was your OB the prescribing doctor?

  • I am not very familiar with Prilosec but if you are really uncomfortable with it you can always get a second opinion or ask your OB if there are other ways to treat your condition.
  • Then take it...if your ob gave it to you then its safe...if you dont want to take it then deal with the acid reflux

Let me rephrase this question for you:

"My doctor, who went to medical school and is well informed of the categories and risks associated with certain medications, has prescribed me this medication. Do any of you internet strangers who are not doctors have any irrelevant anecdotal evidence as to how this might impact my baby?"
This is why people leave this board. If you have not one time questioned your Doctor then you do not do enough of your own research.

I asked the pharmacist who even seemed slightly concerned and suggested I try Zantac, a category b med first.

But thanks for your lack of helpful reply :)

  • After researching this issue and discussing with OB do you believe the benefits outweigh the risk? If not, then it may be worth reconsidering.

So what you're saying is, you asked yet ANOTHER medical professional, and STILL came here to ask internet strangers? Are you going to call your OB and say "Listen doc, Knottie1234p192u4 and BabyMamaInDaHouz say that they took Prilosec and their babies turned into monkeys, so are you sure I should take it?" No? Ok, stick to the medical professionals.

Also, for the record, I do research just about every thing my doctor tells me. I just don't feel the need to ask for medical opinions of a bunch of women who can't seem to read a book and decipher when they should be worried about feeling their baby or make decisions about how to name their child. But, to each their own.

  • I read on the internet that drinking bleach will sanitize all your insides, my doctor doesn't agree but what does she know? It makes sense, you use it to clean things so why not use it to clean your body? The people on the internet say it's safe so it must be.

FYI, I talked to some janitors, and they said bleach cleans everything.

  • I was taking Prilosec before pregnancy than switched to Zantac. When Zantac wasn't cutting it, my Dr prescribed me Prevacid. A class B drug
  • I was taking Prilosec before pregnancy and they told me to keep taking it throughout the rest of my pregnancy because my body is used to it
  • I switched obs because my first told me if I quit smoking my baby would go threw withdrawal symptoms. She also said I'd be better off just smoking weed instead. I'm not sure but I think she may have been a little off??

  • Btw I did stop smoking and I did not replace nicotine with THC \:D/

  • This entire thread is making my head spin...

To the OP. I took tums, prilosec, Pepcid, and zantac during my pregnancy with my daughter per my doctor's recommendations. When none of those worked, she prescribed me a Class C drug for acid. My daughter is a healthy 16 month old. I am on the prescription acid med with this pregnancy as well. All that said, you need to be comfortable with anything you are putting in your body - pregnant or not. I got to the point where I was throwing up water. My husband and I decided that taking the acid med was worth the risk to make sure I was able to stay hydrated and consume enough calories to help my baby continue to grow. I would suggest weighing the risks and factoring in your doc's advice and deciding what you feel is best for you and your child. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

  • I was on Aciphex prior to pregnancy. Once I hit second trimester my doctor said it was safe to take again. Knowing that it makes me feel considerably better and able to eat food without it coming back up, I gleefully started taking it again. That was honestly the highlight of my 12 week appointment. My OB and my MFM have both said it's okay.
I would trust my doctor. Prilosec is also on my doctor's list of safe OTC meds.
  • I think I'm getting the heartburns.
